Alame is black dodol which is a traditional Mandailing food. Alame is made from brown sugar, sticky rice flour and coconut milk which is cooked until thickened.

Alame or ulame comes from the Mandailing language which means coconut and coconut milk which are the raw materials in the manufacturing process. This Alame has philosophical value among the Mandailing people.

Having a sweet and sticky taste, this dodol is a symbol of close togetherness and friendship. This Alame cooking tradition is usually carried out during the month of fasting and celebrating Eid al-Fitr.

Alame is served as a special dish at various celebrations and is also used as a gift to symbolize close relationships. Famous abroad This typical Mandailing food has been famous in Malaysia since 2008. It started with participation in the Pulau Pinang State Fair Exhibition. Alame represents North Sumatra in the fair.
