The red jungle fowl is an important animal that has ecological, economic and aesthetic functions. People in Seluma Regency have kept red jungle fowl. Until now, not much has been studied about the origins of the red jungle fowl kept by the community.

This study aims to identify the origin of the red jungle fowl, the origin of the seeds purchased, the tools used for hunting, and the purity of the seeds. The selection of respondents was carried out using the snowball sampling method. Data was obtained from breeders selected as respondents using a combination of in-depth interviews, questionnaires and direct observation.

The results of the study show that 51.11% of respondents came from buying red jungle fowl, 17.78% giving, 11.11% hunting, and 9% hunting and buying. Of the respondents who bought, 81.24% of respondents bought red jungle fowl from breeders, 12.5% ​​from hunters, 3.13% from hunters and breeders and 3.13% from the market. As many as 31.11% of respondents hunted and 68.89% did not hunt.

Of the respondents who hunted, 7.14% used nets, 7.14% racit tools, and 85.72% a combination of nets and racit. The seeds purchased by respondents were 6.25% for parents, 56.25% for males, 6.25% for offspring and 31.25% for mothers and males.The seeds obtained by respondents were 17.78% red jungle fowl, 66.67% were red jungle fowl descendants and 15.56 were red jungle fowl and their descendants.

The origin of the red jungle fowl is obtained from nature by hunting and from the community by buying or giving. The most dominant collection of red jungle fowl came from the community at 74.07%. The remaining 25.93% is obtained from nature.
