Native to mountainous regions in Mexico and Central America, dahlias belong to one of the largest flowering plant families, Asteraceae, commonly known as the sunflower family. They are related to chrysanthemums, gerberas, daisies, and marigolds, to name a few; all share the characteristic of composite flower heads – a cluster of smaller, often modified flowers called florets, collectively known as a capitulum.
There are over 57,000 registered cultivars of Dahlias showcasing single, double, variegated, and bi-coloured blooms. They are as diverse in form as they are in colour, showcasing a kaleidoscope of sizes and shapes Their vivid, layered petals and nectar-rich centres make them irresistible to pollinators like bees and butterflies.
