Meugang is one of the traditions of the Acehnese people that is carried out
when welcoming the fasting month, eid al-fitr and eid al-adha. Meugang has become
a tradition that is inherent and integrated with various circles of society in
Aceh. Meugang as a religious interpretation can be known through things
which is the background for the holding of this tradition in Acehnese society.
There are 2 (two) things behind the meugang celebration in Aceh.
First, the meugang is held to welcome the fasting month, Idul Fitri and Eid
Adha. Second, meugang is used as a momentum for charity.
There is a background for welcoming the fasting month, Eid al-Fitr and Eid
Adha in the meugang celebration is a form of the close relationship between
meugang and Islamic teachings. Let a Muslim be happy with
the entry of the month of Ramadan, because in that month Allah folded
multiply all practices, a month that is better than a thousand months. Giving charity
the background of the meugang is also an important fact behind the tradition
meugang, because the teachings of Islam strongly recommend giving alms and
do good to others.
So that it can be seen clearly, the meugang is a part of
religious teachings that are practiced or practiced by the people of Aceh
inherent cultural forms or traditions. Meugang is an interpretation
religion embodied in culture.
