RAPAI is a traditional Acehnese percussion instrument that belongs to the drum frame family, which is played by being hit by hand without using a stick. RAPAI is often used in traditional ceremonies in Aceh such as marriage ceremonies, apostolic circumcision, night markets, accompanying dances, anniversaries, birthdays and so on, and is an integral part of the life of the Acehnese people philosophically or culturally. There is a saying that is often heard containing "peunajoh timphan, piasan rapai" which means the typical Acehnese food is timpan (a type of cake made from rice flour in it containing coconut and palm sugar, or containing sarikaya / aso rich in eggs, wrapped in young banana leaves and steamed), thenpiasan rapai which is defined as a musical entertainment instrument is rapai.Based on the poetry script sung with RAPAI, this musical instrument came from Syeh Abdul Kadir Jailani, a great scholar of fiqh from Persia who lived in Baghdad from 1077 to 1166 AD (470-560 Hijriah).
