PEORIA — In a rare confrontation at a backyard feeder, a nut-gobbling groundhog bristled at the sudden arrival of a nervy freeloader.

The mini-drama caught the eye of Julie Dodge, who often observes wildlife through her home’s rear picture window. The critters’ contretemps — which (spoiler alert!) soon turned amicable for both species — allowed Dodge the opportunity to snap a photo that has been delighting hundreds of local bird-watchers:

An eager titmouse nonchalantly plucking fur from the back of a nonplussed groundhog.
