SETI astronomer and astrophysicist Seth Shostak is convinced that humans will become aware of an intelligent extraterrestrial civilization by 2036. If he is wrong, he will buy you a Starbucks coffee.
“SETI doubles in speed roughly every two years because the speed is largely dependent on computers,” Shostak told The Debrief in an interview last week. “So just follow Moore’s Law, and you know, I bet everybody a cup of Starbucks that we’ll find something by 2036.”...

I'm not a coffee lover, but I get the point! In any case, Mr. Shostak can pull out his wallet and pay for my fruit juice as we discuss the alternative reality that intelligent extraterrestrial civilizations are already here! Many have suggested that SETI is using the wrong instrumentation to detect these civilizations because these civilizations would be using higher forms of communication systems that we have yet to invent or even imagine. This is a subject that I have studied for years now, and I really believe that the extensive list of researchers and presenters on this topic have convinced me that humanity's best kept secret at the moment is the knowledge that aliens and UFOs are a present-day reality, and not something to be discovered in the future, but rather to be disclosed before 2036!!!

I saw some articles recently about declassified information covering aircraft that were not built on this planet (i.e. here), so I can't help taking this claim seriously:
That doesn't rule out the possibility of finding radio signals from other civilizations that are closer to our own technological maturity level, though. You might still owe him a coffee. ; -)

Ha ha! Yes, if the bet is based on finding radio signals, that'd be exciting news as well, so long as their technological maturity level doesn't include nuclear bombs and a slavery-based financial system! ;-)
