According to reports sixteen men have been accused of being part of a child-abusing grooming gang in Halifax, one of the men accused is a West Yorkshire Police officer - Amjad Ditta.

Amjad joined West Yorkshire Police as a Community Support Officer back in 2005 before taking the role of a Police Constable. Lauded as a pillar of the community and a man who developed innovative practices to attract or develop staff from diverse communities he had a career opportunities like no other.

West Yorkshire Police created a new role within the force, Amjad was chosen to be the new "Positive Action Co-ordinator" to help recruit, maintain and promote under-represented groups.

Speaking of his new role within the West Yorkshire Police Force and his nomination for the "Positive Action" category at the Asian Fire Service Association Awards, he said:

"I am honoured to have been shortlisted for this award and the work I have been doing across West Yorkshire this year. My role as Positive Action Co-ordinator, I am the single point of contact for aspiring police officers and staff members. We want our police service to be diverse and representative of the communities it serves. There is some serious talent out there but I know from my 11 years with the police and speaking to many people from different communities that there are myths and preconceived ideas that are holding people back from even considering applying to join the police. I would like to wish all who have been nominated the best of luck at the awards ceremony."

During his time with West Yorkshire Police PC Ditta had become somewhat of an online professional celebrity representing the force, he was a regular contributor on Facebook live, Twitter, Periscope and he even had his own Snapchat account.

The thirty-five-year-old police officer, also known as Amjad Hussain has been charged with "sexual touching" along with 15 other men who are allegedly part of a "grooming gang" in Halifax. West Yorkshire Police confirmed that he was a serving police officer at the time of an alleged offence in 2009. He has been suspended from duties as a constable in the force's Protective Services Operations department.

The girls who have made these allegations of rape, molestation and touching were aged between 13 and 16 at the time of the alleged sexual assaults.
