Defining a corpse

The word corpse as with many English words has several meanings. It may mean a dead or living animal or preson or it may be a verb meaning spoil a piece of acting by forgetting one's lines or laughing uncontrollably. Here, however, we mean a dead body, especially of a human being rather than an animal.

The term cadaver is used in courts of law to refer to a dead body, as well as by recovery teams searching for bodies in natural disasters. The word comes from the Latin word cadere which means to fall.

So a corpse is a fallen or dead body. The cells are dead and the heart pumps no more. A dead animal is referred to as a carcass.

Things dead Bodies cannot do

Since there are many things not functioning in dead Bodies, they are not able to do many functions they used to do and can only be buried or cremated.

Corpses cannot walk

I believe zombies and ghosts are either a fantasy or some sort of voodoo. Corpses cannot walk.

Corpses cannot talk

There are stories of corpses that talk but I doubt it fully.

Corpses cannot care and protect their families

They are dead and incapable of many things.

  • Corpses are known to produce sounds

They groan, fart and produce other sounds. These occurings can be explained scientifically. It is even known that digestion goes on in dead Bodies. They can urinate and have bowel movement too.

Growing hair

The hair of dead Bodies is known to grow.

Growing Nails

Nails are known to grow too. This is mainly due to dehydration in the body.

I always thought it was weird that corpses could still grow hair and nails. I guess corpses are not "fully" dead for some time.
