I would not want to assume that everyone knows the meaning of amputation because I know that the idea we have about it is the amputation of the leg, meanwhile it is beyond the leg.
So, I dug up a definition of amputation for better understanding below:
Amputation is the loss or removal of a body part such as a finger, toe, hand, foot, arm or leg. It can be a life changing experience affecting your ability to move, work, interact with others and maintain your independence. Of course there is usually a cause for amputation and most times it is to prevent a much bigger damage to the remaining part of the body.
When it comes to amputation, most people do not really have a choice to make. They are left with saving the remaining body part with a sacrifice of the amputated part.
