“You're really leaving, aren't you?” asked Jonathan, looking at Jeremy who was stirring the coffee in his cup.
Jeremy nodded slowly, but still looked calm. "This is an opportunity I can't refuse."
“Wow, that's really cool,” Jonathan said with a laugh. "But seriously, yeah. I'm going to miss my friend who always has weird answers to all of life's questions. For example, if I asked you, ‘Je, why is the sky blue?’ You'd say, ‘Because if it was pink, people would think they were in outer space.’"
Jeremy laughed, realizing how often he came up with absurd answers that only Jonathan could understand. "Hey, that could be a logical answer, if you think about it deeply! Besides, when the sky is pink, everyone feels like they're in a sci-fi movie, right?"
Jonathan just shook his head with a smile. "That's you, Je. You always have a way of turning something ordinary into something strange. I just wish you'd bring a little of that weirdness abroad so the world wouldn't take you so seriously."
Jeremy laughed, feeling lighthearted about the joke. "Yeah, bro. I promise, out there I'll be a person full of weirdness. So that the world doesn't feel too monotonous."
The background sounds of the café, such as glasses touching each other or the sound of spoons clashing with cups, filled the void between their conversations.
“So, you'll be fine without me, right Jo?” asked Jeremy, a little more serious this time, though his smile remained.
Jonathan leaned back in his chair, looking at his best friend with a confident gaze. "Of course. But don't expect me to find anyone who can replace you when it comes to making me laugh for no reason. It's like you have a never-ending collection of personal jokes."
Jeremy smiled widely, relieved to hear that answer. "I think you'll be fine Jo. After all, you have an amazing ability to survive even without me to give you crazy ideas."
“That's true,” Jonathan replied, taking a sip of coffee from his cup. "But I'll really miss our never-ending conversations. Sometimes we'd start off on a serious topic, and then we'd end up talking about 'why did the chicken cross the road?"
“Because it wants to go to the other side!” Jeremy replied firmly, holding up his hands as if it was the wisest answer ever.
Jonathan burst out laughing, almost spilling the coffee he had just drunk. "That's it! The answer you always bring to every situation!
"Bro, life should be light and full of laughter. If you're serious all the time, you'll end up like a robot," Jeremy replied with a shrug.
Jonathan smiled, looking at Jeremy fondly. "Don't worry, I won't become a robot. I'll keep remembering you and every crazy joke you make. So that later, when we meet again, we can laugh at the same things we used to."
Between them, there was a mutual understanding that needed no further expression. No goodbye was too hard, because they knew that someday, they would meet again, sit in this cafe, and continue their never-ending conversation.
"So, how about it? Should we have another coffee before you leave?" Jonathan asked with a big smile, as if he didn't want to miss this moment.
Jeremy smiled. "Sure, bro. We still have plenty of time. And this coffee? It's not finished yet, is it?"

It sounds as if both have a hard time saying goodbye but also admitting they will miss another though missing is a big word unless you are without phone and internet.
