They are the brave ones

On some occasions in my life, I have been able to read and listen when some people say that age is a state of mind. I do not want to raise diatribes with my contrary opinion but today I bring a reflection moved by a very sad situation that I read in the networks.

Sometimes the mind, of those of us who are over 60 years old, makes us think that we can do many things using our best effort, and only with that, we will succeed. I keep thinking that in a way it is true. The mind is our best ally, the mind gives us the optimism, and the endorphins necessary to stimulate our body to go ahead in its greatest effort.

Only sometimes we must prepare our body depending on that great event we intend to perform. An example of this is if we want to participate in a day of exercises different from what we are already used to, we must prepare our body for the adrenergic discharge that we will endure while we practice.

Likewise, if we think of subjecting the body to a walk or exercise different from what we are used to, we know that this task must be progressive, constant, and effective.

Our mind with the necessary stimulus will help us to make this task easier and easier to reach the goal. When we think that we will make a big effort and that our body is going to support it without having made adequate preparation, it is there when we can, in some cases of life, end up suffocating and even lose our lives.

I have read how people, some young, others not so young, and some even of more than 50 years, have wanted to overlook this requirement to opt to be an effective winner. I have read how these people just with the great desire to get to another place, to another region, to another country, where they are supposed to get a better level or quality of life, have lost everything, and have even died in the attempt.

My country has been going through a situation of migration of its inhabitants to other latitudes for many years. The people who have made it have said that in one way or another, they made a hard journey.

Some through jungles, others through rivers, storms, and droughts and I even have a friend who left all his belongings on the way because his body could not stand the drop in temperature in the environment. He was on the verge of dying of cold if someone else had not offered him a helping hand.

Sometimes we want or have optimism, and we have the adrenergic discharge, but sometimes the reality is different. I don't know what will go through the minds of those people in their last moments, in those moments of facing adversities, in those moments when they realize that they are losing their energy.

When they realize that their mind wants more but their body is already exhausted and cannot, those moments when they decide to stay and abandon their dream to die.

To those people so determined, so rootless, and undeniably brave, who decided to make that journey in the dark. Crossing adversities that they were not allowed to overcome, that life did not allow them to beat, for them my blessings. For them my words of prayer in my daily life. I pray to God for the eternal rest of their souls, and for their new life in the Lord. That wherever they are, they will have achieved the peace so longed for, but so different from the one they initially proposed.

A very worrying situation for us.Venezuela has it all to be a very rich country with no need for the people to go through such hardship. I have many Venezuelan friends and also some fellow contrymen from Portugal that used to live there and find the situation appalling. It's way past the time when your people should have risen up and cast Maduro into the Orinoco.

Venezuela is a very rich country, it is and will continue to be. That is why it is so loved by many who need to source from it.

My people have risen up many times and have had many human losses. We do not want that, that is why we went to a free vote and we are hopeful that now in a legal way our wishes can be enforced.
We don't want more dead people, we just want to live and be free.

I do understand that, and remember we had our own revolution here in Portugal in my lifetime, so, there can be no more simpathy towards those feelings than the one I have. I do wish you succeed in that legal path, though I have extreme doubts that you'll be successful in that endeavor.
I wish you all the best and will continue to give all my support to yours, and all causes that are in the direction of liberty, fraternity and solidarity and the liberation from oppression.
Your friend,
Pedro

P.S. También te digo que admiro tu coragen por hablar tan abiertamente sobre eso. Saludos.

How about the rest being in war now and suffering? How far reaches your support?

You wouldn't imagine. I really don't discuss my life in public forae, still, let me tell you: OTAN and UN peacekeeping, volunteering to medical aid in refugee camps, participating in political campaigns towards the liberation of oppressed peoples... Been there, done that. I'm too old to ever do it again. I am also an active voice in defending what I stand for, so, I guess you can say that my support has reached further than it does today, but anyway, I still go way beyond than what's healthy for me.

As long as I do not incite hatred, there are no problems. I don't want wars, I don't want deaths, you know what I want.

You live in Portugal? I am Portuguese because of my parents. They were immigrants during the wars in their own country. They came to this country and raised their children. Now my son and I have the nationality of my parents. I have never been able to travel and know Madeira, the island of my parents.

Yes, I live in Portugal, close to Lisbon, and I know Madeira. It's a beautiful island. Got some friends there and from there too.
I have some friends from the Island of Madeira that live in Aruba, a Dutch island on the coast of Venezuela. They used to have a radio program out of Aruba Store for portuguese people all around the caribbean on Sunday's in the Afternoon. Maybe you happened to listen to it sometime. I can't really remember the frequency. He used to play portuguese music... But then, that might have been more a thing for your parents, because you probably were raised in full integretion in Venezuelan society. I also have a very good friend who used to own a couple of fruit plantations close to Maracaibo, named Antonio Moreno, but I lost track of him during the Chavez goverment. I hope someday I'll visit him again. It's cool to have your roots in different countries, myself, I also originate in other places, I am a Portuguese that feels European.
I'm curious... Did your parents teach how to speak portuguese? Did you pass it on to your son?

I learned with them, my parents, some things in Portuguese that I don't forget. When I was with my family I understood it perfectly but I don't practice it so I forget it. Reading it also comes easy to me but I can't hold a conversation because I don't master it.

I'm glad you live there, it's a pleasure to meet people from all over the world on this platform.

Yes. That's very good. It's nice to know that you canread portuguese. It's very close to spanish and I think, mutually compreensible in writing. Have an excellent day.
Cheers.

Trump needs sources and will take it like he will everywhere Europe included

Migrations occur everywhere in the world. People flee their lives in search of betterment, not knowing what is to come. Very soon immigrants will also leave the U.S. thanks to the policies of their government. People who believe that their living conditions will change significantly will leave that country.

I can only say that my prayers will continue for all of them, I don't care where they are from.

If everyone leaves the question is: where will they go to? It's like you wrote it's rarely what they expect from it.

Todo en el ser humano es complicado. Pero la vida se nos va. E inevitablemente echamos raíces y tenemos responsabilidades.
