1.4 – Stargate
The Piercing Company has been drilling the underground city of Béchar for some six decades now. The works will continue forever, as evermore industries demand room near the most important logistical hub in the planet. Above it, on the surface, sits Stargate, the main planetary spaceport. Inside the forgotten tunnels that were dug for now obsolete infrastructures and service access for the tunneling workers, thrives a community of illegal outliers known as the Anthill. Nobody knows, exactly, how many they are. It's said their numbers are astonishing and the tunnels they added to the system are known to be labyrinthic. In this hive of human activity devoid of any kind of formal government and filled with the will to resist the control of the Technocracy, a number of tribes have formed. For major decisions, their leaders meet in secret. Rumours say they call themselves the Tunisian JIhad.

Do you think it's true? - Aliyah asked Mustafah.-I don't know. I hope so. It's the only way we could ever defeat the Technos.- She fell silent, considering the implications of the existence of a vaccine that set the sanitizers free of the juice.- Mustafah, can you try and find those Ionians that are supposed to have it? Just find them. When you do, report back. - He bowed. - God willing, I will, my Shaykah. I'll take my leave now. Ma'a as-salaama.- Allah ma'ak, - she replied. May god be with you.
Aliyah Sadiq was finally alone. The meeting had taken too much time. She worried that a long tribal council would give the sanitizers time to find and kill them all, like they did her father and the six Sheiks that died with him. It was her job not to let that happen again and she felt she might be getting careless. It was important, yes, but it didn't merit so much talk, especially because it was probably just a fantasy. And fantasies get you killed. The possibility of the Ionians having developed a vaccine for the sanitizers may just be one more episode of counter-information in the cold war between the Earth and the moons of Jupiter. Still, if there was even a shadow of a chance that this vaccine was real, it was her duty to do everything in her power to acquire it.
She looked herself in the mirror and tried to get as disheveled as possible, so she could blend into the anthill while she moved back to her place. You're getting careless, Aliyah – she said to herself,- it's not just the meeting, you are taking too long to move.- Making sure her dagger was well hidden under the tunic, she made her way for the door and got out, into Tunnel A, the main pedestrian walkway in the anthill. She got to the market section and crossed it while stopping in every other stall to look at the produce and compliment the salesmen and women, that knew her since she was a child, and now, looked up to her as the leader of their community. A secret leader. And all of them were her accomplices in keeping her identity safe from the sanitizers. Misery is a strong bond, she thought. It's also a good motive for betrayal. That's why she made every effort not to let anyone know in what hole she lived in. Once again, she made her way through the maze until she got to be sure she wasn't being followed and entered the empty tunnels that lead to her home. When she closed the door, she could finally relax.

Just to be clear: All that's written here is fictional and originated by the author's own toughts about what may happen to come in the unknown future.
I like this part it's also good to read it as a short story. The only thing I have doubts about is that there would be a god in the future.

I try to make each separate part as self contained as possible, so it can be read even without knowing the whole story.
In what regards religion... It's only less than 200 years into the future. I'm pretty sure that there will be religion. As a matter of fact, it's one of the main features on the novel. Several religions will feature, as I move through different communities. My bet is, after a nuclear holocaust, or an holocaust of any kind, religion will make a resurgence bigtime, especially those religions that depend less on organised forms of cult. Hard times tend to bring a particular connection to God.
And yes... God will always exist. I don't think we can erase that feature out of human society, or even, out of human minds, for that matter. ;)

I don't agree here with you. Since the 60s religion is going downhill in the Netherlands not many visit church or read the Bible. What is left is the fake like getting married in church because it looks better but it is not possible to get married in church first.
The priest made the remark as my friend got married in church: I did not expect you two here the last time was over 12 years ago as the youngest was baptized (the eldest is 19 and they are 25 years together). No way they visit church, ever read the Bible or pray.
Who doesn't believe or has been raised with religion will not pray in moments of despair either. I was in a very strict inhuman way and had a very hard life but I never praid again since I was 8. My believe in Celtic and Germanic gods and tales is stronger so is bonding with Mother Nature.
What I do agree with is that people in need need to cling to and believe in something to give meaning to their lives which is another trend preached by church and spread by social media. Meaning of Life, who says there is a meaning others than what all living beings do? It only causes more broken souls not avke to be "useful" useful as what the society or government calls useful.
Who does not feel the need to pray, beg god to give a hand has faith in his own strength, flexibility and knows that change only can be achueved if you change. Self-esteem and insight are the key next to the ability to be creative enough to see the solution.
Btw, My uncle married late, the girl next door, and she did not even know the word Bible or it is a book. Isn't that part of basic knowledge? You should have seen my grandnither's face as she asked: What is that?

Sorry to get back to the subject... You don't realise the scope of the work I'm doing here, yet, and I'm not giving any spoilers, but, I can tell you about my method of creation without damaging the future interest for any reader that wants to follow A little bit of blue.
(As an author's note, I also point out that I did give deep thinking of what kind of changes there may come in the evolution of religions and the confrontation of civilizations, including the epistemological ruptures that may arise from a global scale destructive event and further considerations about what social structures have the strength to survive global chaos. You can see, here, that a female hero is leading a (post-apocalyptic) muslim community, which is, in itself, a paradigm shift. You should consider such story traits when reading this type of a story.)
Regarding my method: I work with images, as that is the way my brain processes language. In this eidetic process, I have schematized a full universe and got that schema on paper, as a simplified diagram, so I can re-structure this world, in my mind, whenever I write.
Then, I noted a dozen or so predictions of what would arise in case a nuclear war started next week and imagined a basic storylline, out of the infinite number I could develop on that universe.
Then, In the spirit of freewriting, I am populating this world in short, ten to twenty minutes writing sessions, only attaining myself to the rules of this universe I have set in my mind. Also, I have made sort of a free schematics of the characters arches to guide myself in their development. And, writing goes as the moment's flair, or inspiration dictates. Before publishing, I only recheck if I am following the universe's rules and if I am not deviating from the character's arch in a great extent, and correct as needed.
I believe this will allow me to achieve a very organic story in an interesting, coherent universe, that really has no need to have any relation with our actual reality. (It is a product of imagination, after all...). If it doesn't, at least I'll be left with a few cool self sustaining stories. :))))
This is in no way contradictory with your idea that Religion is in the end of days... Which I kind of agree with, if we are talking about so called Western religions. It just means that in this universe I created, religion is one of the features. And... A few will show up. :)))))
Thanks for the comments, @wakeupkitty ! :)
In the end, we'll have found out if it is possible to freewrite an entire novel. :D)))))

I already thought you work like that and the hashtag #worldbuilding could be used by you. I am not sure if they are still on Steemit. Therevare webnovels and the Freewriters wrote novels while using the daily prompt. They joined the, by now wotld famous) writing movement #nanowrimo for several years.
It's about 2500 words per day. I did it with my phone.

Yes. I knew about nanowrimo, recently, as well as about reedsy and some other out of google and I chose steemit as a nest for my writing, for a number of reasons. Also, I don't feel like I have time for two simultaneous platforms at the moment, and writing a novel isn't my specific objective. For the moment, I'm feeling good around here, as I can explore diverse writing themes without any particular compromise. :) Thanks for the suggestion and your comment. :))

Yes, I am aware that Protestantism and Catholicism are going down hill. The case in point, the one that Is portrayed in this episode is, in effect, Islam, which shows no signs of slowing down. And the point in time is after a nuclear apocalypse with the potential to wipe mankind from this Earth. I think some religion will be called for. :)))
