90 - An Out-Of- The-Box Script (Test 3)

What would your younger self tell you now? What would they think about your life?

She is on her way to the sleeping quarters and studies the beds one by one. The bed by the door is free. Her tired body collapses on the mattress and she sighs.

K2, 90 years old, always active, an optimist, who lives withdrawn.
K1, child, helpful, abused.

"Ninety years old and not dead yet. I have outlived everyone, no plans to go bungee jumping and my bucket list is empty. What have I actually done with my life? It has been a long journey but looking back everything I did was pointless."

She lets out a deep sigh.

The cat meows and wants to get on the bed she pushes him away.

"Move aside hairball. It has been a long day, good night Cat, don't tear the house down. I am too tired to keep an eye on you. Good night your food bowl is full and there is clean water in the hall."

Twenty minutes later she is still wide awake and sits up with difficulty.

"How old am I exactly? Ninety? Damn it, ninety years old and not dead yet where did the time go. I've outlived everyone and have no plans to go bungee jumping and my bucket list is empty. What should I do tomorrow?"

She lies down again. Stretched out on the bed, eyes closed, the pillow is a sad remnant from a distant past.

"Hey K, what are you doing to me? Is it really you? Damn, you've grown old unlike me. What have you done with your life while I was left halfway behind?"

She opens her eyes with difficulty. They feel dry. She peers at the figure in front of her bed. She opens her eyes wide in the light of the moon shining through the window and rubs her eyes.

"It's you, she whispers, I've missed you, where have you been all this time?"

A solitary tear trickles down her cheek. She stares at the child she was related to in the distant past. The child smiles and strokes the old woman's hair."

"Was it okay?"

She swallows.

"Do you regret it?"

"No, but the journey was too long. Look at me, I'm ninety and the only survivor."

The child nods and sits down on the edge of the bed.

"You did well. I'm proud of you, you survived and with you I did. Do you remember how we climbed the mountain together?"

The old woman nods at the same time as her likeness from long ago looks back.

Her memory is intact. No dementia or illness has ever plagued her since the day she left.

At the dawn of the new day, a ray of sunlight shines on the face of an old woman. She smiles just like the child holding her hand. A warm breeze comes in through the open window. It promises to be a beautiful day.
