Out of the Box Write a Script The Talking Fruits

Script: The talking fruits.
Characters: apple peach, plum, pear
Setting: a bowl
Plot: in the face of imminent destruction to find the meaning of their existence.

The apple (red and very firm): We seem to all be in the same bowl together. Somehow our fates are linked.

The peach (blushing and starting to soften): Yes. Here we are together. I was hoping for a different future. One where I found a place on the earth. It would have been fine if an animal carried me away from my tree. But here I am in a bowl.

The plum (a little sour and smaller than everyone else): Get me out of here. I'm feeling crushed by everyone.

The pear (embarrassed by his shape having a large bottom his sense of humor a little dry): Are we set to pose for an art class? Models for some young Rembrandts and soon to be famous. Our representations hanging in a famous art museum?

A little murmur of quiet laughter can be heard from everyone. The humor helps but the problem and the questions remain. Stuck in bowl and what is the goal and purpose of their existence?

Apple: I think we are going to be eaten.

Everyone murmurs in agreement.

Peach: It doesn't really matter to me. Actually I have tried to make myself as attractive and tasty as possible just to attract a creature to take me and eat my outer covering It won't hurt me at all. It's just like my clothing. I am inside the stone, the pit, the seed. My fear is that I will not be sown. I will never be allowed to grow into a tree.

Plum: Yes. I agree. Same with me. So is our lot hopeless? A life lived in vain?

Pear: I'm a little different. I am present in several seeds. I stand a better chance. If even one of my seeds can be sown. But there is no guarantee.

Apple: It seems endless. The seed, the tree, the seed, the tree, the seed, the tree... I'm tired of it all. Isn't there something more?

Peach: I wonder the same. What's the use? It really is boring.

Plum: And all the problems. The lack of rain, the scorching sun, the insects who constantly bother, the fungi, the molds, the insecticide...

Pear: It really is a rather dreary existence repeated over and over and over again ad nauseum. Who is happy with this?

Apple: I see only one way out. Divine intervention. Since we are destined to a fate worse than death... If we are offered in sacrifice to the creator we can be released from this dreadful cycle.

Peach: Wow! If only that were true. And we were so fortunate to be in a bowl in the house of such a person.

Plum: We can only hope. It is our only hope.

Pear: Here comes someone. I feel our bowl being lifted and carried somewhere. We are being placed in front of picture of some sort of teacher who is sitting in front of an open book.

Apple: I can hear this person reciting something. Sounds like a prayer.

Peach: He is praying for us!!!!

Plum: We're outta here....

Pear: See you all on the other side...
