Yesterday I phoned a friend to find out if she planned to spend Valentine's Day with her partner. "No, I do not like this day," she said, startled, I think as to why. She said just: "Every day is Valentine's Day."...
At first I thought maybe she didn't want to purchase a present for her partner, But it got me thinking: Is Valentine's Day just a commercial holiday or is there something real behind it?
A day for love or just marketing?
Valentine's Day is one of the most recognized events in the world, packed with flowers, chocolates, and romantic gestures, but let's be honest: corporations earn a lot of money from it, restaurants are busy, gift costs are high, and social media is overflowing with photographs of beautiful couples.
Some individuals consider that love should be honored every day, not only on February 14th, some individuals regard Valentine's Day as a unique occasion to express sentiments that may be forgotten in ordinary life. So what's the truth?
Love is more than a day
Yes, corporations are cashing on Valentine’s Day, but that doesn’t imply the passion behind it is incorrect, some couples use it as a reason to reconnect, cherish one other, and make wonderful memories.
But love isn’t restricted to spectacular acts done one day a year, it’s all about the tiny things: checking in on someone when they’re unwell, remembering their favorite food, or just listening when they need to chat.
Personal experience on Valentine’s Day
Last night I went to a restaurant for a meal, expecting it to be full of couples celebrating Valentine’s Day, to my surprise, the place was almost empty. as I sat eating alone, i wondered where everyone else was, later, when I went to a cafe to play chess with friends, I finally found them: a couple enjoying an intimate moment together, seeing them reminded me of my ex and brought back bad memories.
This experience showed me how Valentine’s Day affects us differently: whether we’re in a relationship or single, whether we celebrate it or not, the day tends to make us think about the love and friendships in our lives.
The restaurant is empty
I'm eating soufflé with escalope
The roof of the café is decorated for Saint Valentine’s Day, with some decorations inside and others outside
I'm playing chess with friends
The décor of the café is celebrating Saint Valentine’s Day.
Should we celebrate it?
If you love Valentine's Day, enjoy it! If you don't, that's okay too. The most important thing is to show your love every day in a genuine way.

In my region in particular, we don't celebrate Valentine's Day. The origin of the day is a reason in itself, it has a rather negative history before Shakespeare started romanticizing it.
I agree that Valentine's Day doesn't have to be a one-day affair, but there's nothing wrong with it being a symbolic thing that everyone enjoys, except you.
No lover? Too busy with the computer?

Why don’t you celebrate Valentine's Day? Is it forbidden? Why can’t I enjoy it? Haha, I think you're using a translator , you didn’t mean that. No lover? Haha, why are you asking? XD Busy with the computer, it’s my job

It's not officially prohibited, it's more like advice from religious leaders, it's a matter of faith, some people don't care, some people get carried away. It comes down to each person, but when it comes to my religion, this is not recommended.
Why shouldn't I ask? Lovers are part of life choices, let's just say I'm doing some kind of lifestyle survey. For you, maybe hanging out with friends and the computer is more relaxing.

If it's not official you should not say that it is or because it means that you twist the rules.
Lovers are part of life choices as in? Now I wonder what you mean by "lovers" apparently not your life or children?
Since this is 2025 and we live in the SF time and there are equal rights and women work and have salary next to being housewives, wives, dishwashers, cleaning ladies, therapists and so on I assume that equal also means that they can have 5 husbands? Sounds fair to me. Than at least they have a chance to be pampered as well. Do you know that there are also cultures in the past where the women are in charge and can have more than one men and not the other way round? History is very interesting.
@kafio is that possible?

Do you mind he is too busy or can it be he likes someone with brains?
I find it pathetic to hook up with someone out of fear to end up alone or because of mom and dad or worse because the need of a free cleaning lady and babysitter.🤢 I rather stay single. Nothing as terrible as being forced to waste your life with a bored, uncreative person.

Life is about choices, and every choice has consequences, so as long as you're prepared for what will happen, do whatever you want.
Maybe you need to know, that in my religion there is a recommendation to marry more than one woman, for those who can afford it.

Brother, Islam does not recommend marrying more than one; in fact, it is the opposite. Also, there is nothing in Islam that forbids celebration. Please don’t say things you are not sure about, especially when discussing religion. Allah says, "Justice is a condition for the validity of polygamy" and then says, "And you will never be able to do justice." This means that achieving perfect justice is very difficult, and therefore, polygamy is not recommended. The practice of a man having more than one wife is permitted, but not recommended or obligatory.

It should be clear, I said recommendation (even for those who can afford it), nowhere did I mention obligation.

Marrying more than one woman, when do you plan to carry out the religious commandment by looking for a second one? 😂

Need a deeper discussion on this, not as easy as it seems. ask your heart, are you capable? 😁

It seems like we both have the ability, but it's just our courage that doesn't have the ability yet.

When a man marries a woman he has a great responsibility, the ability to give a dowry, provide for her, and many others.

You love to skip one rule don't you? This is that the Quaran says that you should love all women and children equal and treat them equally. Can you do that? I doubt it because we love people in different ways for different reasons.
P.s. in the western world you would end up in prison because it's not allowed no matter what your religion is. Only the first marriage will count. I would say: do your best. It must be great to be able to dump the demanding guy with another wife and have your freedom LOL

That's what the phrase if you can afford it means, and unfortunately I'm not one of those people. That means not everyone can do it. Because what? Yes, being fair is not an easy thing.

No.. afford is you have a fat wallet.
Loving and treating equally has nothing to do with money.
You have a lot to learn.

More precisely, it is history, but it would be difficult to explain, because it is related to faith (in my religion), obviously we refuse to follow the traditions of other religions or beliefs.
Valentine's Day celebrations are also a trigger for lovers, yes adultery is strictly prohibited, there is no freedom for that. Because many people, intentionally or not, use the name of love to fulfill their lustful desires.

Adultery is forbidden? Now you make me laugh. It's all that I see around me with men sharing your faith. It sounds to me that it depends on the leader who or what is allowed and how strict the rules are followed. BTW I also see that men with more than one woman let those women and the children work their arses off while the man does nothing so if it comes to religion...
Btw the Indonesian people in the Netherlands aren't Muslim.

I think all religions agree that adultery is forbidden, so it's less about how religious lines are drawn, and more about the adherence and behavior of people who claim to follow a particular religion. Does that include freedom?

So the solution for adultry is more than 1 woman? Isn't it cheating if you can't be committed equally? No way I can not even to my children. People differ and so do their needs so the one with the highest needs or demands receives automatically most.

Valentine's Day is hardly celebrated with us. An Italian friend told me yesterday it's official Italian the rest is greedy and commercial. You will not find 1 single shop earning great because of Valentine's Day so stop saying this is the biggest holiday of the year since it isn't. The same counts for Christmas. Why is it you keep the commercial alive and the first thought is she doesn't like to buy a gift?
Do you know the history of the monk St Valentine?
Do you know that every day it's a special day because of some commercials? New Year, Carnival, Eid, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Peanymutbutter Day, Eastern, First May, Children's Day, and and and... All signs of love and never-ending piles of gifts to show love to unsatisfied partners, family members, friends and children
.
Just like your friend I am sick of it and a present no matter how expensive is not a sign of love.

Everyone out of money, no longer feels like spending? Nasty about this day is how it's promoted and makes many feel like losers because they can't afford to buy and fulfil all the wishes. I'm glad it was an ordinary day and I had fun with me. The only thing I do is buy chocolate my food next to bread! Try it.
