Freewrite Info, Tips and More

Two things I do a little differently. I just type "timer" into google and it pops up a 5-minute timer. I also type directly into steemit. I also rarely use a photo, don't I? So that's three things.

Please read, comment and vote (if you have voting power) on each others freewrites as much as you can. Especially if you are new to the platform, you will be surprised how many friendships are formed by reading and commenting on each other's work!

Writing help

A free app: Grammarly. A lot of us are not native English speakers and I am finding it a helpful app. It will underline spelling and grammar mistakes. Just remember that is is not always right -especially if you use complex sentence structures. Here is the link
Remember The Most Dangerous Writing App. You set the time - 5 min - and start typing. Don’t stop!!! It will destroy what you wrote if you stop for more than 3 seconds - and backspace does not count as writing on the app. If you are prone to stop and think - this app forces you to keep going. You can make corrections after the 5 minutes are over.
A timer. Egg timer is a free tool you can use on your desktop to set a time. This is useful for our freewrites or if you want to work in blocks of time and then take a break. Here is the link

I am one who kinda sorta follows the 5 minutes. I set my timer for 4:30, stop writing at that point, then spend several more minutes cleaning up what I wrote without changing the content. Of course, finishing up the dang post for publication (links, attributions, images etc) takes at least another hour.

We don't really have hard and fast rules here. Thank you for writing with us! This was a great freewrite.

I do also kinda cheat a little with the time, because I find it impossible to write all that in a mere 5 minutes, but if were to cut loose then I wouldn´t stop for the next 3 hours. It´s why I like the format so much, it really incites me to cut the fat and write about the important parts and really gets me going. Also thank you so much, I´m glad you liked it! :)

Let me in on a freewrite secret. Many freewriters throughout the years have completely ignored the 5 minutes and just kept going - many for hours. Others used their 5-minute freewrite as the beginning of their writing or to come up with an idea and polished and expanded.
Actually, several books have been published that started with the daily freewrite :)

No kidding? I actually have saved some of my freewrites to expand later because it really helps getting the creativity flowing, but I like the 5 minute(ish) time limit because it makes me focus on what I want to write about and trims the fat on a lot of unnecessary details you know? To get to the point of it. Still, thanks so much for the tips and for replying :)
