Tony Parker, Tim Duncan, and Manu Ginobil. The three of them have made history for the San Antonio Spurs by forming the Big Three trio which is considered one of the most successful trios in NBA history. They played together from 2002 to 2016 with a total of 575 regular season games and 126 playoffs, not only that they also managed to win 4 NBA championship rings in 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2014.
I will discuss how this legendary trio was originally formed.
Tim Duncan
Tim Duncan was born on April 25, 1976 in Saint Croix, United States with the real name Timothy Theodore Duncan. When he was little, he actually dreamed of becoming a professional swimmer, but because of his brother-in-law he switched and plunged into the world of basketball. Since then he began to play basketball regularly until he was finally selected in the first order of the 1997 NBA draft by the San Antonio Spurs. Being named the first draft pick was indeed fitting for Tim Duncan because when he was still playing in college Duncan was one of the best prospects of his time. At the beginning of joining the Spurs he had formed a very frightening duo with David Robinson.
Tony Parker
Although Tony Parker was selected by the San Antonio Spurs at number 28 in 2001, he managed to become one of the Spurs' all-time Point Guards. His full name is William Anthony Parker Jr., born on May 17, 1982 in Bruges, Belgium, with a height of 1.88 meters. Before Parker entered the 2001 NBA draft, he was already famous as a professional basketball player in the French league.
Manu Ginobili
Emanuel David Ginobili was born on July 28, 1977 in Argentina with a height of 1.98 meters. Although born in Argentina, he has Italian citizenship. Ginobili began his basketball career at a club called Andino Sport Club in the Argentine league for two years. Then he played at the Vertus Bologna basketball club and managed to bring the club to the Italian league division 1 and in 1999 Ginobili was successfully selected in the draft pick 57 by the San Antonio Spurs but he immediately played for the Spurs and strengthened Vertus Bologna for three years.
After Ginobili returned to the San Antonio Spurs in 2002 and David Robinson retired, this was the beginning of the formation of this trio. They played very solidly and successfully played their respective roles, namely Tony Parker as a Point Guard who controlled the game during the transition of attacks, then Manu Ginobili as a Shooting Guard, he was known to be very good at reading the game and had a very good game, then Tim Duncan was one of the best players in the NBA and had won the MVP title several times, vision and effectiveness were the qualities in his game. The combination of this trio produced several championship rings and ended the era of the very dominant Los Angeles Lakers.
