Out of experience I can tell you it's good to diy (do it yourself). Once you start with it you are improving yourself and do more and more tasks which is a good way to save money.
In my childhood it was quiet normal to ask an artisan to do your garden, paint your wall, install a new kitchen and repair your car. Those days are over. Most people do not have the money to ask a craftsperson to repair their stairs or dining table. We decorate our houses and dress ourselves with cheap articles good enough to serve us for a year before they need to be replaced and we throw it away.
Once there was antique, today we are 'proud' of what we call vintage which is second hand stuff, clothes, furniture we once called old fashioned but suddenly it's stylish again. Hardly a worker was used to produce it because robots took their place and making as much money as possible the idea.
Our young ones belong to a generation with hardly any skills. It's what a life in a spoiled, consumption, throw away society is good for. We cannot blame the robots only. Societies, governments and school are mainly focussed on studying. Today laborers are rare especially the professionals. Plumbers, car mechanics are needed but making your hands dirty is no longer done. No one likes to do the real job any longer. It takes too much time, patients and love for the profession something hardly anyone is willing to invest.
Soon the last artisans are history and no one will replace them. If parents are without skills they cannot teach their children. What is left are diy-ers. A part pretends they are artisans and make you pay a high price for a bad and unfinished job.
