So here we are again. All good things must eventually come to an end and that's how it happened again this time. Our trip, which was a necessary break from our everyday lives, is now already a few days behind us and we are back to our normal lives here in Japan. As usual, it sometimes feels like we haven't been away at all, but when you look at our home, the mess and the chaos that now you can see here suggests that we had treated ourselves to a little change.
It was super nice to be back in the homeland. Fortunately, I can probably claim to be at home in two places now, even if I don't get to see one of them all that often. But when I am there, it is extremely intense and pleasant and I immediately feel as if I hadn't been away at all. Even though I had to travel halfway around the world to get there, and this journey has become more strenuous and more expensive each time.
But all the effort was worth it and in the end we all didn't want to go back. Of course, many people will start to envy me for living in Japan, but everyday life here is often no different from what it would be like in other countries. You have to earn a living here too, because you can't really live well without money. And traveling through a country and living there are two completely different things.
But well, at the moment it's time to look ahead and start thinking seriously about what we want to do with our future. The big decision that has I have been talking about several times cannot be put off forever and we now have to think very carefully about how long we want to stay here. Forever is of course an option, but then I would have to give up a lot of things that still strongly connect me to my original hometown. And going back there would mean turning my back on my current home, where I admittedly feel extremely comfortable and at peace. Unfortunately, the long distance and the high cost factor make it increasingly difficult to simply jet back and forth and indulge in the comforts of the other side. So in the future, no matter where we live, it will probably become much more complicated for us to take time out like this.
As I said, now it's time to look ahead. Summer is still in full swing over here, bringing us extremely hot days that make us sweat. Autumn may be in the starting blocks, but it doesn't really want to get going. Most people are probably looking forward to the cooler temperatures to come, which should make it a little easier to concentrate on the challenges that lie in front of us. Fortunately, in terms of work, I'm not going from zero to hundred just yet, so I still have a little time to prepare myself mentally. Maybe I'll come up with a few good ideas, as I could really do with a few at the moment.
But let's see, September certainly still has a lot to offer. I'll be happy to take a look at it and enjoy it, and then I'll be ready for the long final stretch of this year. Because if we're honest, it's almost time to start preparing for the approaching New Year. Even if I would like to keep it out of my mind for a long time, it is nevertheless coming closer and closer....
