Experiment to shift the orbit of an asteroid (NASA)

Eh? How do you shift the orbit?
Blow it up like Armageddon? Some of you may be thinking.

Now, as to the method, I'm curious...
"Unmanned Probe Tackle."

Ha? It's not rugby...

The target asteroid was an asteroid (1.9 km in diameter) 11 million km away from the earth.
The game was to hit the asteroid with the body and shift its course.

The unmanned spacecraft that hit us is called "DART".

The result was a success!
No, no, primitive... you may think, but if this can protect the earth, it's a small price to pay :)

If in the future a planet is found that is about to collide with the earth, it would be a great step forward that we may be able to avoid a collision by physical contact.

I, too, am physically hitting all kinds of things every day to change the direction of my life! (Like my boss!)
