The negative effect of Ankara farming

Hello beautiful people of steem environment i bring to you the negative effect of Ankara farming been pratice by our mothers in the north west region of bamenda Cameroon mostly by the bafut,mankon, Nkwen to name a few.

The woman in this areas carry out this activities for a long period of time within this community by the rural woman it is mostly done in the months of January, February and early March.

Preparation

  • clearing of the farm
  • regking the grass and sporting it along the forrow or on the bed
  • after that they will pour in some light ground on the grass
  • fire are then put on it to burned and it becomes dusty after the period of 3 days the bed will be prepared for planting.

The rural community believe that such method are more rich when crops are plant there it yields are greater than any other method and it was pratice long time ago by their ancestor and they so much believe in such method they can develop new method of farming by allowing the grass to decompose this method of farming have the following disavantages to the soil

  • it kills the soil in the long run
  • it kills the micro bio that helps for the decomposition of the soil
  • it makes the soil to lose it fertility
  • the output of the farming will be reduced and the farmer will turn to cultivate the crops by the use of fertilizer which it is having an adverse effects to our system
  • the application of manured will be minimal since it will require much capital to carry this activities
