Traveling is an excellent part of education because you get to know certain things about a particular place, lifestyle of people there and many cultural artifact of that place. Although I'm not this traveling freak, I travel once in a well and mostly for special occasions.
Personally when I travel to a place I've never been before, my phone stands as a traveling partner because with it, I store memories of the place visited. Here are my 3 best travel moments. I'll start with my visit to Abia, a state in Nigeria whose capital city is umuahia. The purpose of my travel was to attend The funeral of my friend's father. What a momentous, gloomy, sad and blissful day that was.
My best Moment 1
Traveling to Abia the first time was one of my best moments why because I got to know certain things, traditions and the lifestyle of the people living there. The name of the place I traveled to in Abia state, Nigeria is Umukalu village in Ukwa west LGA.
That's where the funeral of my friend's father was held and I went with some people all the way from Akwa ibom State to Abia. The journey was quite an interesting and Lively journey on bus of which I'll never forget.
The gist, laughter, shared experiences and hopes all got me tuned up in a very mysterious way. We went to Abia not only to be part of the funeral but to serve as a source of encouragement to him and his siblings.
- About the place:I'll be brief in my description of Umukalu because if I'm to describe the place, words would fail me as I have a lot to blot out. Umukalu is a shallow village in Ukwa west LGA in Abia state. It's a village where you barely see a beautiful bungalow house or storey building.
Its roads are quite impressive but not in all areas. Supply of electricity is not available in this village as the residents put on their generators to light up their business places or homes. Asides Umukalu, there are other villages and town in Ukwa west LGA. I visited this place on the 17th of December, 2021. The funeral was a success.
- Experiences/memories: Virtually everyone has experiences or memories of places traveled to for the first time and subsequent times. Experiences and memories never end. On our way to the village, the driver used a very shallow and narrow path trying to avoid bad roads and other obstructions.
This pathway was very gloomy and quiet as a grave yard. To me personally, I was praying at heart that some gun men shouldn't block us here or that our vehicle shouldn't be faulty here because if I does happen, there's no one to call for help as barely a person live there. On our way using the pathway, I saw a body of water that looks crystal white. I didn't hesitate to take a picture of it.
Although the color of trees and grasses blend with the water making it look green,it was pure and as clean as what I can't describe at the moment. Another beautiful memories I got was how people live their lives there. Although being financially unstable or poor so to speak, they strive to survive by all means. We also went to a joint and ate fresh fish with palm wine.
I took a picture of some children pumping water from wells in order to take home for domestic work and this pumping is not that easy. It takes minutes and strength to pump the water to come up. You'll need to pump in and out until your bucket is filled with water. I got to know certain cultural artifacts and traditions of the village and the likes. It was a beautiful travel moment indeed.
My best Moment 2
This travel was to Eket LGA in Akwa ibom state, Nigeria to attend the matriculation of my friend. This ceremony held on the 16th of may, 2022. I left Uyo for my friend's residential area in Eket on the 15th to help him prepare and put things in place which would make the matriculation a success.
On my way, I saw a lot of site seeing places in Eket. in Eket is located at .
- About the place: in Eket is a quiet busy place and its roads are good for vehicles to convey goods and passengers from one place to another. My friend's rented flat in Eket is close to a popular hotel in Eket called Bueveri. The place is very lively and houses there are of standard as it is a town where both the rich and middle class lives.
- Experiences/memories:The worst experience I had which spoiled my day that day was when I went to a salon and the stylist didn't give me my taste. He mistakenly used his clipper in pulling of my hair to the brim which made it seem I cleared all the hair on my head.
I was so pained that I left there with so much anger boiling inside me. In my entire life, I've never made this kind of hair cut. Hmmmmmm....I was just moody throughout that day faking smiles so as not to ruin the matriculating student's day as we went to the school.
Another memory I had which made me burst into laughter and anger was when my friend's coursemate came to his house and started exploring the house. The fried meat we kept in the kitchen was cleared by him. He claimed he thought it was for him and others.
This angered me personally because I didn't got the chance to taste the fried meat since we prepared it that morning to the matriculation. Anyways after the matriculation, we went to the that popular hotel and ate Isiewu which means Goat head. We had funny moments that evening before going back home.
My best Moment 3
My next travel to Umukalu, Abia got me another best travel moment as we took our Time to tour the village. This time we went there to attend a funeral of another close friend's relative. We left the day before the funeral so as to help them with some things.
As earlier described, the place is quite okay and the people there are trying their very best to survive.
_
We also played ball the evening to that day and we had a lots of fun doing so. I also took pictures of sugar sold there which three me off balance.
This is 50 naira sugar which is 0.400 steems. It's not about the price but quantity. In my city, this sugar is reduced for this price.
On our way back, we got drenched by the rain which best us profusely while on an opened vehicle back home....... These are just a few of them.
Thanks for patiently going through this post.
