Hello friends, I managed to find some time to participate in this beautiful contest that has been organized in this community that I occasionally try to follow and read some posts that are shared here.
Today, I want to share with you a recent trip I took to a place that is famous for tourism in Italy, as well as abroad, and that is Palermo and Monreale, these two important locations located in Sicily.
Deciding to visit these two splendid cities to immerse myself in their artistic and cultural beauty, I took a train that took me directly to Palermo, a city that definitely fascinated me with its vibrancy and history.
I chose the train because it would save me a lot of time since, unfortunately, after the pandemic, domestic flights in Italy have become much more expensive, so it is much more convenient to take the train.
Upon arriving in Palermo, I immediately felt the energy that surrounded the city and decided almost immediately to explore on foot, letting myself be guided by the narrow streets that intertwined between the buildings. I also ventured into the famous Ballarò market, where the aromas of fresh food and the chatter of the locals immediately captivated me. During my visit to Palermo, I dedicated a lot of time to discovering its artistic treasures. I was enchanted by the Palermo Cathedral, a masterpiece of architectural styles that have evolved over the centuries. I could admire its golden mosaics and intricate decorations that adorn the interior of the church.
The next day, the last day of my trip, I also included a visit to Monreale, a small town located on the hills above Palermo. I reached Monreale by taking a bus that offered me splendid views of the Sicilian countryside, and once I arrived, I headed straight to the Monreale Cathedral, one of the jewels of Norman architecture.
I must say that the interior of the cathedral is simply breathtaking, with its bright mosaics that depict biblical stories and scenes from daily life. Definitely something not to be missed for those who visit these places in Sicily.
After admiring the magnificence of the cathedral, I explored the charming historic center and found it to be really bustling with tourists arriving from all over the world.
In conclusion, my backpacking trip was definitely an unforgettable experience. I was certainly enchanted by the artistic beauty of both cities, their history, and their unique culture. I was speechless in front of the Byzantine frescoes and mosaics and every detail that tells a story and the art that is breathed in that place. I only regret not venturing into the more authentic neighborhoods of Palermo, such as the Vucciria district and the Kalsa district, but surely it will be an opportunity for another trip.
I hope you found my story interesting, and above all, I hope you liked my photos. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to participate in this contest.
