"Is still a baby". A creation of my authorship made with Artbreeder and edited with FireAlpaca, both free software.
I hope it's not too late to wish all you friends of the Steem world a HAPPY 2020. I had been away from my blog because this past December has been particularly unmotivating for us Venezuelans, at least for those of us not connected to the Nicolas Maduro mafia.
But it is important for me to express to all those who have somehow supported me in my attempts to generate good content my best wishes for a happy new year and... a NEW DECADE.
TECHNICALLY SPEAKING, WHEN DOES THE THIRD DECADE OF THE CURRENT MILLENNIUM BEGIN?
I suppose that the impact, the announced chaos and destruction that the arrival of a new millennium would bring for the humanity dependent on computer technology, what was known as The Year 2000 problem or simply Y2K, made the discussion about whether the new millennium, and therefore the new decade, started in 2000 or 2001, take a back seat. However, every time a ten-year cycle is reached, the issue takes on some relevance again.
Despite the fact that the world is going through serious problems such as global warming, the threat of a collapse of the economy and the escalation of war, the arrival of a new year made the issue of when each decade begins to occupy a certain importance in social networks.
There are two opposing positions on this, one based on historical facts and the other on technical aspects:
The decade begins in 2021. On the one hand there are those who maintain that in the so-called Western World for centuries the passage of the annual cycle is counted using the Gregorian Calendar, called this way because it was implemented by Pope Gregory who put it into practice in 1582 being gradually adopted by many countries, particularly those in which Christianity is or at least was the official religion. This calendar has the particularity that it begins in the year 1 of our era, that is, the year in which Jesus of Nazareth is supposed to be born, and not in the year 0. That is why the ten-year cycle called Decade begins with a year ending in 1 and ends with a year ending in 0. So, according to this argument, the year 2020 marks the end of the second decade of the millennium 2000.
The decade begins in 2020. On the other hand, there is the criterion of the institution that is in charge of establishing standards on many technical aspects, among them those related to time and dates, and which is called the International Organization for Standardization, ISO. To represent dates and times through the use of numbers, this body created the ISO 8601 Standard, based on the astronomical numbering system of the annual cycle and which is internationally accepted. According to this technical way of counting the passage of time, which was first published in 1988, it turns out that our year 0 corresponds to the year 1 before Christ in the Gregorian calendar, and the correspondence is maintained starting from the year 1 after Christ. There is no doubt that, according to the ISO, a Decade is a cycle of ten years starting from a year whose number is an exact multiple of 10. Consequently, the third decade of the first century of the third millennium B.C. began on January 1, 2020.
In any case, and always trying to find the positive side to everything, if neither of these arguments convince you, you can celebrate twice the beginning of the decade
