The Shapla flower has many colours, but only white Shapla has the status of the national flower of Bangladesh. Also, the national flower or its watermark is painted on Bangladesh's money, money and documents.

This flower is also the national flower of Sri Lanka. In Sri Lanka, this flower is known as Nil Mānel. This flower is often called blue lotus in English from blue in the Sri Lankan language. This flower blooms in various ponds and natural lakes in Sri Lanka. The description of the flowers of this aquatic plant is found in several ancient books like - Sanskrit, Pali and Sri Lankan language literature from ancient times such as "Kuvalaya", "Indhiara", "Neeluppala", "Neelthpala", "Neeluphul" which symbolizes excellence, harmony, purity.

Shapla flowers have spread to different areas since ancient times. This flower is trendy in Thailand and Myanmar for decorating ponds and gardens. This flower is also found in Papua New Guinea and some areas of Australia. These flowers can be found in cultivated fields and the wild. This flower bloomed in the little water accumulated in the cut paddy field. About 35 species of this plant are located in the world.

Shapla flowers bloom in the morning, and the petals fade as the daylight increases. Directly attached to the stem and roots. Leaves, flower stems, or peduncles are connected to the roots underwater. This root is attached to the soil, and the leaves float on the water. New leaves grow from the root. The leaves are round and green in colour but black on the underside. The edges of floating leaves are sharp. The length of the leaves is 20-23 cm, and their girth is about 0.9-1.8 m. Shapla flowers come in different colours like pink, white, blue, purple etc. These flowers have 4-5 stamens and 13-15 petals. The flowers look like stars. The circumference of the cup is 11-14 cm. Shapla can be seen blooming almost all year, but monsoon and autumn are the best time to grow this plant.
