All literary writers have written songs, stories or poems about Shimul. Shimul flowers are found in almost all parts of Bangladesh. There is hardly a person who is not charmed by the beauty of a tree full of brilliant red flowers, even if there is no fragrance.
Shimul is a very familiar flower to us. So when you pronounce the word Shimul, the first thing that comes to mind is its blood-colored appearance. English name of Shimul: Silk Cotton Tree. Bengali name: Shimul, Rakta Shimul, Lal Shimul. Scientific name: B.ceiba.

Deciduous cotton-producing plants belonging to the genus Bombax. This tree grows abundantly in Bangladesh, India, China, Malaysia, and Indonesia. It is about 15-20 meters in length. Its branches are relatively small. Straight and circularly spread all around. The bark has thorns. The tip of the spine is narrow and sharp, and the base is quite thick.
It has a mochakriti fruit, which ripens in the month of Baisakh and bursts to reveal seeds and cotton. The seed color is black. Shimul is used to make cotton sheets, mattresses, etc. Silk Shimul, Red Shimul, Kapok Shimul, Pahari Shimul, Mozambique Shimul.

Green leaves turn yellow at the beginning of Hemant. All the leaves fall at the beginning of winter, and the tree becomes completely bare. When other trees bloom in spring, only the buds emerge from the Shimul tree. That feels good. Otherwise, the beauty of Shimul leaves would have paled to its flowers. The opposite could have happened.
Shimul flower has arranged nature in a different way in everything. However, while the number of Shimul trees has decreased in urban areas, Shimul trees in rural areas are now adorned with colorful flowers.

Compared to earlier, the price of Shimul cotton has increased significantly. However, this tree is on the verge of extinction. In the earlier era, sheets, mattresses and pillows were made from Shimul cotton. But with the increase in the price of Shimul cotton, cotton made of jute fabric for garments, pumps, cushions and panch, cotton has occupied today. Apart from that, the fruit burst and spread to different places. Therefore, the people of rural Bengal have started to see the Shimul tree as an additional problem.
