galvani + (动词)
There is a story behind the verb Galvanize. Once you know the story, it would not be hard at all to remember the meaning of this word. Back in 1700s, there was a professor of anatomy in Bologna, Luigi Galvani. He was the one who discovered electricity produced by chemical action in the legs of a dead frog. The verb Galvanize is from the name of this professor, and it means “To stimulate or excite into action.”
动词Galvanize的后面有一个故事,当你知道了这个故事后,要记着这个词的含义便不难了。早在1700年代,博洛尼亚就有一位名叫Luigi Galvani的解剖学教授。他是发现死蛙腿上化学作用产生电的人,而动词Galvanize便是从这位教授的名字而来的,解作”使振奋”。
