Enhancing Explainability in AI Models Using Blockchain Provenance Systems

There is no one that can deny the fact that the world of technology has brought a whole lot of good news for us and one of it is in the aspect of Artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence which is called AI have been able to change the look of things and make our world much more easier to access and make use of. With the introduction of AI to every aspect of our life, there are some challenges that we have been facing which have been eliminated and all thanks to Artificial intelligence. Recently the use case of Artificial intelligence has been able to spread to a whole lot of sectors whether we like it or not. There are several sectors that make use of Artificial intelligence right now. Sectors like the financial sector, the health and even the education sector also.

But there is an issue involved. There is a bit of difficulty sometimes navigating around the AI models and this in recent years have brought a whole lot of challenges beyond what we first expect. One of the major challenges is in the aspect of Explainability and the aspect of transparency. Of course I didn't need to talk about the aspect of transparency but I will talk about the aspect of Explainability much more. This deals with the aspect of how AI can determine how decisions or predictions are made. This aspect of Explainability is really important most especially when it comes to the aspect of the health sector.

In as much as there have been so much benefits that the world of artificial intelligence offers, I will still say there is still a need for Explainability to help solve the challenges associated to AI. Of course many of us know that AI system works in a way whereby it is not interpreted by human being and because of this issue, there are a whole lot of issues that it raises up. The first is the aspect of trust.

Whether you like it or not and even with the accuracy that Artificial intelligence offers to the world, there is still the aspect of trust that lot of users and even stakeholders find it hard to have for AI. Most people find it hard to depend on the decisions that AI offers because they doubt the decision making process of it. The second one is the aspect of ethical concern. Most of the time, it is always difficult to identify the issues associated to AI most especially when there is any discrimination acts involved in it. This also does not offer that complete transparency.

Then the last aspect is the aspect of accountability. In the sense that probably if there is any error or fault from the decisions of information offered by Artificial intelligence, you cannot hold anyone accountable for it. I believe as soon as possible, those issues needs to be settled before it is actually too late. That is where Blockchain provenance system comes into the picture to offer solutions to those challenges I have listed above.

For many of us, this might actually be the first time we will be hearing about this. There is something called the Blockchain provenance system. It is different from the Blockchain governance system. When it comes to provenances, it allows the full tracking and getting the necessary information about data and even assets. This particular solution if applied to the AI world can help to give another higher level of transparency.

Recently I was studying the Blockchain technology and I have come to discover that it has some certain features that will help to enhance Explainability when it comes to the artificial intelligence world. The first is in the aspect of Immutability. The fact that any transactions that are recorded on the Blockchain can not be altered or easily changed. The other aspect is the power of transparency and Decentralised nature that the Blockchain technology offers. With these key features or attributes that Blockchain technology have, it can help to enhance Explainability in AI models.

If there is a proper integration that is carried out in the aspect of Blockchain Provenance systems for the AI Explainability, it will help to take it to another level. The first is the aspect of data provenance. Blockchain technology will definitely ensure that all data or information that is offered by the AI models can be tracked or traced to a particular source for more accountability and clarity for those data and information.

The second aspect is in the aspect of model development and the aspect of enhancing decision making. I said earlier that one of the challenges of AI models is the fact that one cannot traced the decision making made by AL model to a particular source. But with the Blockchain technology, it helps to make every decision made by the Blockchain technology to be traced to a particular source much more. This will go a long way to enhance trust and accountability much more.

As I conclude, if we want to witness the enhancements of Explainability in the Artificial intelligence world, then the Blockchain provenance system will play a major role in achieving that.
