Hi everyone. How are you? Greetings from the PussFi 🐈 community once more on my blog.
- Introduction
We can say airdrops are now the common method for drawing attention in the Web3 industry. Free tokens are great, aren't they? However, even though airdrops might attract large crowds and create hype around a project, sometimes they fall short of an active community.

Many users leave projects after the free-money is claimed, So, how do you create a sustainable Web3 community? Pushing forward the temporary rewards and focusing on long-term involvement, and genuine relationships is the solution. Although projects themselves often fall behind here where they find it hard to keep up with the real users who contributed to their community growth after the exposure
There Should Be Some Long-Term Engagement Strategies
Although airdrops usually bring initial excitement to the project, therefore they draw in Farmers who will leave quickly as soon as the free tokens are taken, so therefore as a project, you need to put your attention to value-driven scenarios to create lasting engagement.
Organise regular Ask Me Anything (AMA) sessions with project creators, produce guides and materials to help newbies get started, and support community content like NFTs, and memes.
Also as a community, you need to make members feel like they are a part of something big, and respect and regard their contributions.
The Need For Governance Models
Personally, I'm against any project that doesn't have a good governance model where they leave decision-making to one individual or the developer, the potential of Web3 is to decentralise decision-making through DAOs (Decentralised Autonomous Organisations).

DAOs work in a way that they offer members of the community a direct influence over a project's path or sometimes Roadmap, turning them into active participants whereby through this, they can foster long-term involvement and a sense of ownership.
A good DAO community, for instance, can let users vote on partnerships, fund allocation, and product development and this will prevent centralisation of power, governance models must be properly formulated to achieve this sustainability as well.
Experiences We've seen from Succesful Web3 Projects
As funny as it sounds, we can take an example from projects like Friends With Benefits (FWB) and Nouns DAO which have created active communities by bringing value to their members and encouraging teamwork. For example, FWB creates an environment where members feel personally invested by combining social networking with governance.
Nouns DAO was the second on the list, which also was a good example of a web3 project as it ensures and onboard active innovation and community involvement by using its NFTs money to fund community-driven projects.
What are the commonalities we've seen among these communities? Authenticity is more important to them than hype. They market a vision and a way of life rather than just a thing everyone is doing.

Secondly, they also realise that creating a sense of community is a process that is more important , where at the end of the day It all comes down to constant activeness, transparency, and flexibility within the organisation.
Conclsuion
To build an active community, airdrops are not the long-term solution, although they may be a temporary solution, so therefore communities need to focus on producing real value, and empowering members through structured governance.
After all, the people who use Web3 to create wonderful things are what really make it powerful, not the technology itself. You can build a community that lasts long after the initial excitement reduces by creating meaningful interaction and shared ownership within the community.
