It is one of those things that is imported and I have never bought. I am not fond of coconut nor do I feel like cracking such a nut. I also ignore coconut milk, which is sold in cans here. I don't like it and don't find it worth the high price.
Slices of coconut, sometimes coloured, are also sold here to eat on bread. It tastes a bit better so there must be all kinds of things added to it: flavourings, colourings, and more chemical junk to keep it fresh. You would think it wouldn't dry out then but it does. Also, the grated coconut is rock hard and hard to soften. In cakes or on top, that's why I don't like it. There isn't really much flavour in coconut either.
The Bounty, which does have a creamy content, and the coconut macaroon are a different story. My mother does like coconut macaroon even though she doesn't like coconut. As with coconut, she doesn't like nuts with or through her food either.
The exception is peanut butter. She says that when she was a child it was sold with a layer of oil on top. You had to stir that first. Then the time came when palm fat was put in everything. Peanut butter, chocolate spread and nutella. All unhealthy junk that gives you cancer. Peanut butter with oil on top is back. The label says it is 100% peanut. I hope that's true because the shop that sells that is regularly in the news for its misleading information on packaging. You probably know it. ' with canberry' it will say but then there is only 0.001% cranberry in it. Saying that is forbidden by law because there must be a set minimum percentage of it in order to be allowed to mention it.
Now with the war and the dirty games being played, imports and exports may become less or cease.
In any case, coconut doesn't matter to me, I don't consider it a staple just like peanut butter. Is that spread actually as healthy as people claim?

Well we crack the top open with a knife and drink the water. When the insides are soft, i scoop it out with a spoon and eat it.

I'm not crazy about coconut either unless it's in cookies or cake.
