The garbage was finally collected today. Mom said this used to be done weekly. Weekly changed to every other week and the municipality has now switched to once every three weeks. So there are many months when the waste is collected once a month. I think there will come a time when it will be collected at most once a month or even less often. I only have a small dumpster, the smallest size available. The last time it was emptied was 6 weeks ago. I think the municipality does register the amount of waste, because each container is chipped and has a number.
Waste that stinks and attracts vermin is not really fun and I also find it annoying that you are obliged to be at home and get up early in the morning to put the container on the road. That again feels like a bit of control and is the price that has to be paid for collecting waste in a country where everything is arranged 'neatly' for you.
If I'm honest, I prefer the underground waste containers or the containers we used to have at our flat. You brought your waste bag there yourself, which was a small effort if you did leave your home on the way to school or work. Many then used their balcony or the gallery to put down the full garbage bags. That could also smell nice and attracted not only flies and vermin, but also cats that diligently opened the bags in search of food.
