Since I finished watching The Office, which became one of my favorite series, I wanted to watch again some other series of the comedy genre, I had thought about watching Community or Parks And Recreation, but in the end I decided to watch one that for about 1 year was recommended to me, well, exactly recommended in a video I saw on YouTube from a channel that I do not remember exactly what it is. But anyway, one of the reasons why I started watching this series, Barry, is because its main actor is: Bill Hader and maybe many people know him for having been for many years in Saturday Night Live, being this actor, one of the best actors of that generation of SNL and the other reason was the premise of the series itself, since I found it quite curious. Just today I finished watching the 2 seasons that this series has and I must say that is all I expected, I liked it a lot.
Barry tells us the story of, as his name suggests: Barry, an ex-Marine who, after a traumatic time in the war, now works as a contract killer. But Barry's life is in a bottomless pit and he is soon to fall into a deep depression, as he feels that what he is doing (even though, according to him, the people who kill her deserve it), does not fill the emptiness inside him. Along with him, there is Fuches, his "mentor" and the person in charge of making the contracts for Barry, who at first was shown as the father figure of the protagonist, with Barry being looked after by him, after he returned from the war, but as the series progresses, Fuches, goes from being a rather funny character and even very loved, despite what he does, to being a character that really earns the hatred of the public, for something in particular that he did in the last chapters of the 2nd season. Although I won't talk about that to avoid getting into so many spoilers.
Back to the main plot, at the beginning of the series Barry is assigned the job of murdering the lover of the wife of one of the city's Mafia bosses, whose characters are very funny, charismatic and even weird, but in a good way. Being Noho Hank, one of the best characters in the series and having many of the best moments in the two seasons.
Barry decides to take the job, so he follows his victim to a certain building, when he enters he finds himself in a mini theater where they are giving acting classes, by chance of life, Barry enters the stage and after finishing his "scene" (since he does practically nothing), he receives the applause of the few people who were in that theater. Such applause made Barry feel in glory and that somehow, the emptiness he felt in him, was being filled little by little, because it is at that moment that Barry decides that he will take acting classes and that he will stop killing people for money... but things do not happen as he wants.
In "Barry" there will be many funny moments, Bill Hader who is also the main actor, is the creator and writer of the series, does an excellent job, knows how to create great funny moments in the simplest ways possible and always handling a black humor, quite subtle but often quite explicit.
However, the strong point of this series and that when I started to watch it, I didn't expect it at all, are the plot turns that happen during the course of this story, but above all, the transition from comedy to drama and suspense. The way in which they change to these genres is extremely impressive and although in many moments of the series there will be quite crazy moments that are out of the ordinary, quickly in another scene they show you something totally different and that turns the whole previous scene that was of total comedy.
Quite impressive in this aspect, usually the performances of the main characters, and even the secondary ones, are very good, highlighting by far the character of Barry, Fuches and Noho Hank, who will give us great moments of comedy, but also of tension and drama. Highly recommended and looking forward to the 3rd season.

Based on my quick research, it cannot be found on Netflix... however, it seems to be on a mixture of Amazon Prime (USA) and HBO alternatives in Europe!

I haven't really read or heard much about this show before, and I am not a big fan of Bill Hader... but you just made me check out the trailer of this show, and noticing that I actually have access to it with my HBO Go subscription in Europe, I might actually end up watching this! Thanks for the review!
