Better Call Saul: You should watch this series

Since a few months ago I've been doubting about when was the first time I started watching Breaking Bad, I'm not sure if it was from the end of the 4th season, or just a few chapters before the end of the series, my memories about those days are quite doubtful, that was several years ago and my memory is not so good, but what I do remember is to start watching that series and in a week I have seen a lot of chapters, since Breaking Bad was a series that since its inception caught me to the point of having become my favorite series, the series that is in the top 1 of my list of favorite series, which few series have been almost on par with it, being those series: Mr. Robot, Bojack Horseman and Dark. These 3 series are spectacular, and I perfectly understand that for anyone else any of those is their top 1, it's something totally understandable, but for me, Breaking Bad is the nro 1, although the aforementioned series are not too far from the first place. I spent some time thinking that no series would be on par with Breaking Bad, and when I say "on par", I mean, everything that this series managed to transmit to me during its 5 seasons, I thought no other would, until Better Call Saul was released.

There are very few spin-offs that have been successful, it is quite difficult to be original and have its own success considering that a spin-off derives from a larger product, however, this series (Better Call Saul), is a clear example of how you can be a spin-off of another product and still surpass it in many ways and be able to live up to the legacy of Breaking Bad. The Breaking Bad universe is undoubtedly something spectacular, Breaking Bad was ranked as one of the best series in history, its performances are masterful, its story enthralling and full of suspense and characters that will last for many years to come. Likewise "The Road", which is a movie series and is part of the continuation of the end of Breaking Bad and a kind of epilogue, which some people did not like or simply saw it unnecessary, for me, it was quite satisfactory and served as a complement to a very important character in this story.

When watching "The Road", which was made some years after the end of Breaking Bad, you can notice the evolution of Vince Gilligan's cinematography, the handling of the shots and colors in the scenarios was something totally different from what was seen in Breaking Bad, but still maintained the essence and charisma of its predecessor, and that is something quite difficult to achieve.

So, when it was announced that there would be a spin-off series that would tell the past of one of the best characters of Breaking Bad, Saul Goodman, I was sure that the product would be at least decent, however, this spin-off completely exceeded my expectations as a viewer. I'm not going to lie that I was expecting something really good, but I didn't expect it to be a series that would surpass Breaking Bad in many aspects.

Better Call Saul, was the name they chose for this series, a phrase used by Saul Goodman throughout Breaking Bad in the form of advertising. The crime lawyer would have a series which would narrate his adventures before meeting Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, characters who would change his life completely. Or so I thought at the time, because although it is true that both Walter and Jesse were part of the change in Saul Goodman's life, throughout this spin-off we will be spectators of many events in Saul Goodman's life that would make him change.

Mainly because his original name was never that, his real name is Jimmy Mcgill. And in the beginning he was not the corrupt lawyer... or well, not as corrupt as we saw him in Breaking Bad. Better Call Saul, besides having again its creator Vince Gilligan, also has the help of the best screenwriters that Breaking Bad had, this time having more authority. And thanks to this new "group" of creators, Better Call Saul, despite maintaining the essence of Breaking Bad, is a product that feels totally new and refreshing.

The way in which the cinematography improved in this series is spectacular, the camera angles, photography and colors, improved enormously in this series. Also the story is better developed. Again Saul Goodman is a spectacular character and we will be able to see the background of this character, how he returned to what he was in Breaking Bad and what he was before. We will also have old characters already seen in Breaking Bad, some functioning as simple cameos, although with some importance, and some other old characters being a central and main axis. But in addition, there will also be new characters which are equally important and impressive. The end of Breaking Bad left a huge void for all its fans, especially because we wanted to know the whereabouts of certain characters after its end, Saul Goodman was one of those characters, and during all 6 seasons we see small scenes of Saul Goodman (with his new identity), living an empty and sad life because of everything that happened in the final season of Breaking Bad.

The end of a series always leaves a void in you, and even more so when it is a series that you have watched since its inception and has been with you for 7 years. The end of Better Call Saul, completely closes the universe of Breaking Bad, which together with "The Road", make a wonderful product that will last in time. This series is simply something else, and with all the merit, shares the first place along with Breaking Bad, in the top of my favorite series. Better Call Saul is one of the best series of recent years and one of the best of all time, I have little else to say about it, but that you should watch it, because you will not regret it.
