This was a tough one and I was happy to see so many people participate in it since this community took a real hit and now has very little interaction on it.
Thanks to everyone that entered but in the end I had to choose just one person to select at the winner, just as I had said in the original post.

The reason why I chose this one was a couple of reasons: I like the writing style of @roaguz and also because I have never heard of this film and now have something awesome to watch a bit later as I am downloading it now.
I am a little ashamed of myself for not knowing that this film existed because apparently it has made over a billion dollars in sales once we factor in merchandising as well. How did that get past me especially since I am a child of the 80's?
I can't find any information on it but the animation style also looks a lot like Spirited Away and I wonder if some of the same people were involved in making it.

Spirited Away is also from Studio Gibli, but it was released years after My Neighbor Totoro. I really like that movie too

I want to say that Spirted Away is considered one of the top movies ever made. Not just top animated movies, but movies overall.
Totoro is currently on a USB stick, just waiting for me to fire it up!

Wow, I didn't know that, I know Spirited Away is one, if not the best movie in the studio, but I didn't know that it was considered one of the best movies overall.
If you liked Spirited Away I'm sure you will like My Neighbor Totoro, although the ideal would have been to have seen it in childhood

I see that it is consider number 8 on the list of a sci-fi or fantasy list, not an overall list. Still pretty impressive for an animated film without a massive budget though.
I finished Totoro 2 day ago. It was neat but the ending was a bit abrupt. I didn't see that coming.

I don't believe it is now or ever will be available on Netflix. I'm not sure about all regions but I can't find it in a search. You'll probably have to torrent it.

I saw it and it's from the same studio of spirited away. Perhaps these fims weren't broadcasted with you? I know it's fewer than 10 years they became popular with us. Ponyo was the first I watched. Still love that one most.
