Enola Holmes is a new Netflix original movie, and in a time when there is limited chances of visiting a cinema, and there are no new typical blockbuster Hollywood movies released, I was quite happy to see this title on Netflix.
To be honest, I hadn't heard of it before it showed up on my front page on Netflix, but I quickly read a few words about it, and seeing "Sherlock Holmes" show up, made me interested. I love a good Sherlock Holmes story, and I love how he is able to deduct and solve problems noticing, seeing, and understanding things that no other people are capable of seeing and understanding.
But, what is Enola Holmes all about?
Enola Holmes is the little sister of Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes, and she is a character totally invented by Nancy Springer. There are six books about her, and whether or not we will see a second movie about Enola Holmes will for sure depend on the popularity of the first movie, and also about the outcome of a legal case between the Arthur Conan Doyle estate and Netflix/Nancy Springer. Not everybody seems to be happy about someone just inventing another character and involving their very own Sherlock Holmes in just any kind of story.
But, what is it about? Let us try again!
Enola Holmes has been growing up without her father, together with her mother. But, one day her mother disappears without leaving much idea about what has happened to her. Mycroft and Sherlock comes to help, but Enola also understands that she needs to take matters into her own hands. Mycroft wants to send Enola to a ladies-school in which she will learn manners, while Sherlock is way more "nice", however - Mycroft has the right to decide. As a result, Enola runs away to escape her destiny (imagined by Mycroft), and while doing so, she also searches for her mother and helps a noble boy named Tewkesbury.
By the way, there are great actors in the movie. Enola Holmes is played by Millie Bobby Brown, Sherlock is played by Henry Cavill, and Mycroft by Sam Claflin.
Is Enola Holmes worth watching?
To be honest, I had a good time watching the movie. It is hard to call it a typical "Sherlock Holmes" movie, because Enola never deducted and solved things impossible to understand in a way Sherlock would have done so. But, being his little sister, who would force her to everything in the way of her brother? Sherlock is very smart also in this movie, but he is forced into the background of Enola, and somehow, he is a little bit vague and not the guy we really know him as.
But, considering that Enola Holmes is about Enola, I would still say that this is a fairly good treat, and I would easily have gone to the cinema to watch it. The truth is, this movie was supposed to be a cinema movie, but due to COVID-19, it was postponed, and in this period, Netflix bought it and as a result, we can all stream it at home instead of in the cinema.
My Enola Holmes score
7/10
A good movie, not a classic, not a superb movie, but way better than most of the other stuff you will find on streaming services nowadays. If a successor will come, I will for sure watch it as well!
Have you seen Enola Holmes? How did you like the movie? I would love to hear your comments!
Thank you for this review...and you gave it a 7/101
I wasn't gonna watch it because it felt to me like a Nancy drew sort of vibe but after reading your review maybe I will give it a try. :-))

Hehe... I read some Nancy Drew books in my childhood, but this felt more like Sherlock Holmes than Nancy Drew, though not as brilliant as Sherlock. However, as a source of amusement for some hours, this is great!

Nicely written! Pretty much parallel with my thoughts. It's not a best or anything, but alright for a watch.
