I watched this movie in the cinema as well, and I was incredibly disappointed. I have read some of the Jo Nesbo books about Harry Hole, and they are just so exciting. This movie, however, was mostly without edge. I haven't read this exact book, but I went to see it with one who had read the book, and she was even more disappointed.
The saddest part is that this could have been the start of a long relationship with Michael Fassbender in the role as Harry Hole, but due to the bad critics and low income, I guess this story ended way earlier than I had hoped for.
For my part I have not read the book. But the film points out that the original work is nowhere near. It takes a while to understand the whole plot of the film and, in my opinion, that speaks volumes about how bad or good the film will be.
