Wonder Woman 1984 - Can't wait to see the rest (review after the first hour)

Wonder Woman 1984 premiered world wide on the streaming service HBO Max in the United States 5 hours ago. I have spent one of those hours watching the first hour of the movie, and now with approximately 80 minutes left, I had to take a break as my wife wanted to sleep and watch the rest tomorrow. So, let me just share some thoughts based on me watching the first 60 minutes of the movie.

If you want to stream it on HBO Max yourself, follow this guide to find out how you can watch HBO Max online all across the world.

Gal Gadot is back...

Gal Gadot is the Israeli actor who has become a world star due to her role as Wonder Woman. And to be honest, she looks way better than most other female super heroes. But, that is not something that makes me want to watch this movie in itself, I am not that big of a fan of Gal Gadot. However, I really enjoyed the first movie, and it is not a coincidence that they expected Wonder Woman 1984 to turn into one of the biggest success movies in 2020. Well, Covid-19 kind of changed the planes, but I am very curious to see how the reception of this movie will be considering that it received an online premiere instead of a traditional cinema premiere, and also considering that it can only be streamed in the USA currently (and maybe a few other places).

The story...

Wonder Woman is catching some bad guys who robbed a jewelry store. But, among the objects that they took, there was a very special stone with magical powers. In a way, it is supposed to give everyone who touches it whatever they wish for. It takes the first 60 minutes of the movie for this fact actually to turn clear, so in a way, it feels as if things are developing quite slowly, and to again, there is almost no action at all in the first 60 minutes. So, this is not a non-stop action movie with stunts and fights from start till end. Instead, the movie is building itself up steadily, and I have a feeling that the big action will start at about half-time into the movie (after 70 minutes).

The three main characters of the movie are Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Kristen Wiig as Barbara Minerva (a co-worker of Wonder Woman who experiences some big changes after touching the stone and making a wish), and Pedro Pascal playing the role of Maxwell Lord.

A fun fact is that Pedro Pascal is actually playing the role of The Mandalorian in the Disney+ series as well. But, even though I just finished watching the second season of the Mandaloriain, I didn't recognize him in Wonder Woman 1984, simply because we see his face so little in the Disney+ series, and he looks a bit different in Wonder Woman 1984, compared to what he looks like for the 2-3 minutes we see him without the mask on in The Mandalorian season 2 on Disney+.

Slow, but promising

Once again, it is progressing quite slowly, but I really look forward to the remaining 80 minutes which I am going to watch on HBO Max tomorrow evening. This is what I call home cinema in the time of COVID... so bring forth chips, beer, Coke, popcorn, and whatever you need... and bring the cinema to your own home! It is absolutely worth it...

Should I write my final thoughts tomorrow?

What do you think? Would you like to me to share my final thoughts as I finish the movie tomorrow? Have you seen the movie? Did you like it? I would love to hear your thoughts!
