What's your pleasure?
This British horror film is about pleasure. A certain kind of pleasure. To some it's heaven to others hell.

If this is the best film of the eighties is hard to tell but it's intriguing in some way. Can be SM even became more popular - or is it accepted - after pinhead became more and more famous.

Hellraiser
The story starts with the couple Larry and his wife Julia. They move back to the old house where pictures remind Julia of how she met Frank her brother in law right before her wedding with Larry.
Frank isn't a gentleman and his violent and demanding attitude is made clear via the flashbacks of Julia.

While moving Larry rips his hand open at a nail and his blood on a wooden floor in a room upstairs gives life to Frank.
Julia still under Frank spells takes men to her house so Frank can feed himself with them. After each meal he becomes more human. Flesh on the skeleton, his nerves are function and he starts tasting again too.

Frank is the same dangerous brute he's always been and Julia is under his spell like she's always been. Her marriage with Larry never had a fair chance after the sex she had with Frank on her wedding dress.

"Come to daddy' how creepy that is. These are Frank's words to Julia but he says it to Kristi too. Kristi is not charmed by her uncle Frank and as she accidentally picks up the box (a puzzle) and notices it's important to him, she trows it out of the window and escapes.

Kirsty ends up in hospital (a creepy one which has more in common with a mental institution) and the doctor gives her back the box. The puzzles with it and since curiousity kills the cat she enters the hallway behind the wall of her hospital room.

It's there where she meets some slimy creatures (pinhead is one of them) who will take her with them into hell because she solved the puzzle and with that called them.
She asks them to take uncle Frank who escaped out of their hell instead of her. They are willing to consider it. At least that's what they, the Cenobites, say.

How it ends? Frank is caught and although he planned not to go back he seems to enjoy the pain.
Kirsty survives and the box (puzzle) ends up on a table between two men where one asks the other: What's your pleasure?

To me this film is not about (discovering) your pleasure, answering that question or being introduced into SM but about being tricked. Those who coincedentally find and play with the puzzle open the door and let in the Cenobites too.

Directed by: Clive Barker based on his book 'The Hellbound Heart' (1986)
Pinhead: Doug Bradley (in this film not called pinhead yet)

A truly amazing film that looks very realistic when you consider the technology that existed at the time wasn't very good. These days a lot of people might think it is a bit boring because it does take a while to get going, but I love this film and it is also one of my favorite 80's films too.

Some (most) of the sequels weren't so great though.

With today's technology it would be a complete different film for sure nevertheless it is good. Especially if you watch it more than once and see the story behind it. Thank you for your comment.

I missed this one , i will keep it in my watching list.

You have to like horror otherwise you can better skip this one.
