Hinterland is not your typical gun touting show like its counterparts in the USA. In fact, you'll be able to count how many times a gun is used in the series (5 by my count).
This does not reduce its entertainment value though, as Hinterland focuses more on the story and the relationship between characters. The main protagonist, DCI Mathias, is a compelling character with a past that he has a hard time escaping and oftentimes affecting his job.
The show doesn't shy away though from provocative themes, grisly crime scenes, and thought-provoking topics. This, blended by the backdrop of a rural Welsh town makes this a must-watch show on Netflix.
