In this week edition, I would be sharing with you all an interesting book that gave me new ideas or knowledge on how to relate with teenagers, it's a fantastic Novel titled: Sweet Sixteen ( A coming of Age Story), a book authored by Bolaji Abdullahi a former commissioner of Education in Kwara State and former minister of Youth development and sport in Nigeria, the book was published in 2017, and is one of the best book I read so far this year.

It has this theme for young people that had vision to explore their future and perhaps become great in the future, I really found it so exciting and interesting! All thanks to the author and my friend (Samson Stephen) who lend me the book to read, it was quite interesting, I would gladly recommend it to you all my dear friends on steemit, to go through the book on internet or any means, though I have the hard copy here☺️, I could lend it as well, if it's possible☺️.

So, the Sweet Sixteen contain the theme like,

  1. Letter
  2. Drive
  3. Work
  4. Gandhi test
  5. Dating
  6. Stereotype
  7. Beauty.

The novel is about a young girl who is about to reach her Sixteen birthday. The main character in the novel is Aliya, Aliya constantly reminds her father that she is not longer a child, but a young adult. Her father, Mr. Bello does not always agree with her.
However, as the child Aliya is approaching her sixteen birthday, he (Mr Bello) is sitting up and taking notice of her and the changes she will start experiencing after reaching 16.

The birthday card that was expected from the father, is however, replaced by a present and without any restriction letter, a page for each year she has lived.

The letter contained the lessons he has always tried teaching her and the wisdom he has attempted to pass to her long ago but could not. The letter gives answers to the burning questions she has been asking about life, her identity, everything was spelled out in the letter.

Aliya questions who she is and why she is? that's the rhetorical questions she kept asking; However, the wisdom of her father provides a unique guide on this journey of discovery to her. Also An engaging coming of age guide on life and love for the teenage girl out there who wants to understand the world and implications of any actions.

Though it's never easy for a teenage girl out there, but this novel provides an important unique guide for girls like Aliya, and also to anyone who read the novel, which I would rate it 10/10 for you all to go through this amazing book.

When you Go through Mr. Bolaji Abdullahi’s Sweet Sixteen Novel, you’ll discover that the protagonist, that's 16 year old Aliya, whom her father usually adored and refers to as ‘My First Lady, has troubled her father with numerous questions, setting his heart ablazed sometimes because of the exposures she gained in the school especially with her peers.

There was a time when Aliya asked her father; “Okay Daddy, what does HAK and KOTL mean?,’’. And the father fained his ignorance of the acronyms, then Aliya, felt she knew something that her journalist father doesn't know about, then she said Dad...“HAK means Hugs and Kisses” while KOTL means “Kiss On The Lips”. Perhaps I also learned something from the book, coz I don't know anything like that before until i read the novel😊.

She however, on another occasion in the novel surprised her father with the news that some students were caught on the school basketball court at night having S£x Mr. Bello was Gobsmacked. ‘’But…...how do you know all these?,’’ he asked almost in perturbation, to which Aliya replied; ‘’Come on Daddy". everybody knows these things.” (ah? Wahala) the father remained shocked.

In summary, the Novel Sweet Sixteen offers a very good moral lesson, about identity, culture, family, especially her closeness with her father, Mr Bello really helped her a lot in overcoming the challenges of teenage life while growing up. (Because teenage life no be childs play, our children needs parental care and attention at that very age).

Words which I've learned or grabs that keeps ringing in my heart is "No relationship can survive if it is based on material gains" and " The most beautiful garden is the one that has different colours and flowers" I cherish those words so much, the novel is very educative for our kids especially in this 21st century. So I read this novel for like 7 times already. On this note, I would like to invite @owulama @ninapenda @goodybest to also participate.

Thanks for reading through my post, I love you all.

Kind regards @ibraheem75. From Nigeria.
