SLC | S21W1: Developing a Learning Contract"

It's my pleasure to participate in this learning challenge, the lesson has opened my mind in some adjustments as a teacher, I understand how impacting knowledge to people can be challenging, especially in environments that lacks the necessary teaching aids. Here is my personal information on this topic .

1. Can you explain what obstacles a teacher may face in the classroom learning process? (2 Points)

Teaching can be challenging especially when there are more students in a class, in a class of 50 students which is applicable in our school here are the obstacles.

• Understanding barrier. This is a situation whereby some of the students are not paying attention to the lesson, after the lesson when teacher is evaluating them to know their understanding on the lesson you find out that they weren't paying attention .

• TEACHING AID. It's a big challenge for us the teachers to carry out our work effectively without proper teaching aids, sometimes we go around improvising in order to pass the massage. Textbooks as one of the basic things for a student atimes you find out that the students had no textbook or workbook to follow up.

• Time . Sometimes we have less time to explain the lessons well , because of too many subjects to cover up the teachers end up delivering short lessons with less information.

1. What do you think is the importance of learning contracts and how have learning contracts helped your teaching process so far? (2.5 points)

Learning contracts is very important because it helps the students to learn a better approach to understanding the lesson on their own.

It helps us to work towards achieving an effective goal.

As a teacher learning contracts has helped me to understand my goal at the end of every lesson.

1. What important components should be included in a learning contract and explain why they are helpful to you? (2.5 Points)

Learning contracts should involve the following.

• Behavioral objectives. This is understanding the behavior of every student which will help to know a better way of handling them or asking them questions.

• Instructional materials. This includes textbooks and charts used during the lesson.

• Previous knowledge. This should be included to know their understanding on the previous lesson in order to know where to start the new lesson.

• Evaluation. This is asking the students questions based on the lesson to know how they understand.

• Homework. This is very important to engage the students.

They are helpful because it will make the lesson lively.

These contracts helps the teacher to organize and direct the class effectively.

It helps the teacher to get good feedback from the students.

1. What are your strategies for ensuring student compliance with the learning contract and how have the consequences worked so far, or do you have other ways of organizing the learning activities to remain effective? (2 points)

I use so many strategy to make sure my students comply with the learning contracts.

• Practical method. As a teacher I saw learning enthusiasm in my students whenever I use practical method. They like to do and see things on their own.

• Simple English. I have understanding of my students, they comprehend more when I use a lay man English or simple English.

• Reward method. I make sure I reward those who are doing well in order to motivate others.

• Question and answer. I apply this strategy and I see majority trying to ask and answer questions. With this I achieve more effective goal.

These strategies are very powerful, I have seen it's outcome on the students performance.

Other strategies that I apply is outdoor play, where we go out of class to study Nature.

I also give the students projects on nature, this helps them to be engaged even at home .
