Good evening to everyone and I trust we all had a good day?
Today was fun for me and I can't wait to share. Am going to be talking about "Naija hustling"
I am proudly an entrepreneur,i run my p.o.s business at umudike. So unlike every other day i left for work and just on my way I got thinking and started asking myself what is hustling?,I gave myself all kind of definition but was not still satisfied and decided to do a small fun interview with people who were passing just right in front of my shop,a lot of people gave me definition similar to what I know and some just ignored me thinking I was doing an online show to ask people questions and if they fail probably I will laugh at them or something else.
I took it up as a challenge to interview more people as I wasn't satisfied but this time I decided to ask mostly entrepreneurs like me.
First was a young man and his mom who run a small retail shop and he was so happy i was talking to him and he said to him hustling is not just what you do to earn a living but what has become part of you and gives you joy when doing it!,I paused for a sec to digest what he said and I asked how and he told me there is a difference between working to get money to put food on the table and working not just because you want to put food on the table but because you derive joy in doing what you do.
So many people just work because it is a must as the saying "No food for a lazy man" but they don't love what they do they just do it to earn a living. So at this point it was getting interesting and I moved on to look for more people to interview.
I met a guy down the road from the retail shop and he fills gas and also paints gas for people,I properly introduced myself and we got talking,at first he wasn't too comfortable talking to a stranger but 5min into our discussion he opened up,he said hustling is not just a job you do for a living but hustling is YOU!,this really got me confused but let me break it down the way he did(lol)...YOU in the context has to do with everything you can offer, your time, your attention, your best. Hustle is not complete without giving it YOU!,funny enough we became friends at the spot.
I continued my journey seeking and looking for entrepreneurs I could interview when I came across Danladi Ibrahim who is a tailor,
it was a little bit hard in communicating with him but at least I could understand what he told me hustling is not just working it also the passion you have for what you do and also gaining long time experience as he has been sowing for over 7years and sowing was the only things he knows how to do best and has accumulated a lot of experience along the line and he is happy at what he does!,wow I was happy and congratulated him and just still at that spot I got talking to a bike man
and he said hustling is your daily activity to put food on your table with consistency!(I mad for this wan)nija slangs. He said its your consistency and zeal that makes it your hustling.
I went back to my shop and sat down and pondered on all i have heard and it began to make sense, yes most people especially in white-collar jobs would not really understand the main definition of hustling as they are seen as people who dey enjoy for office no be las las them pay you salary?(naja slangs),but those on the street, who tide and die,who are out there under the sun and rain would know and understand the meaning of hustling.
After the day was almost coming to and end,on my way home I decided to still interview some entrepreneurs just to get their view and thought, first was Emeka who sells bouns, donuts, egg roll and meat pie.
He said hustle no dey get shame ohh,its not only putting food on the table that matter but are you proud of what you do?,o boy ohhhh!(at this point I off)nija slangs.
I was happy and smiled as I left him,I was creating a big picture in my head of all the definitions I have gotten, the adventure and the experience so far has been fun, although not all of them where comfortable with fact that I wanted to take pictures with them, this is Nigeria where anything can happen and you don't know who is who.
My last interview of the day was with Mr samuel who is a baber,we conversed for a long time,he said hustling is putting life and style into anything you do that brings I come,he said as far as what ever your doing can bring income to feed it can also generate income to build a mansion so why not put swag, passion and style and watch what i would yield into.
So i got home, sat down and made up a full definition of hustling.
Now according to the definition of hustling it means to push or force one's way; jostle or shove. to be aggressive, especially in business or other financial dealings Slang. to earn one's living by illicit or unethical means.source
But thats not the definition or what I mean and thats why i tagged it naija hustling.
It means to add focus, energy, passion, will, attention and time to what ever business you do in other to yield greater results.
Thanks for reading my post and shout out to all hustlers.
I love you all and urge you all to do more.
