Hello friends,

Special thanks to @prolee and @bright-obias for this wonderful contest organised to help majority of steemians living in Port-Harcourt to know themselves, and also publicizing our great city to the world. Kudos.

Introduction

Port Harcourt city, nicked named Garden city is the capital of Rivers State Nigeria. Port Harcourt city is the fifth most populated city in
Nigeria with an estimated population of about 3,171,000 people.
It is the third most developed city behind Lagos and Abuja. The major language spoken by the people is Nigeria pidgin.
The current mayor of the city is Mr. Victor Ihunwo

What is the city of Port Harcourt known for ?

  • Industry: Port Harcourt, or "Pitakwa" as most people prefer to call it, is primarily known as a Nigerian industrial hub. After the Lagos Apapa port, the Port Harcourt port is one of the most important import and export destinations in Nigeria.
Several multinational oil companies have their headquarters in Port Harcourt. Because it is a coastal town, there are several jetties that connect it to its neighbors.

Below are pictures of iwofe Jetty i took during my BSC project. At the bank of the Jetty, we have the Delta marine patrol company and Ivaco construction company

  • Tourism: If you're visiting Port Harcourt for the first time and driving down the popular Aba road, you can't afford to pass by the prestigious presidential hotel, the beautiful pleasure park and the several flyovers painted in black and white scattered all over the city giving it a new urban look.

  • Food :Visiting Port Harcourt without sampling some of the local and international cuisines is a mistake. It would be a crime for you to visit Port Harcourt without indulging your taste buds with a plate of well-dressed bole. Bole is more than just a meal in Port Harcourt; it's also the subject of a festival, which is scheduled to take place in August 2021. Port Harcourt hosts a number of markets that attract visitors from all over the country. We also have restaurants that sells food of other tribes like abacha

  • Music: Port Harcourt city has produced a lot of musical art like, Timaya, Burnaboy, Mr 2kay , Omalay just to mention a few, who are very talented. Recently one of port-Harcourt's sons won a Grammy award.

As a resident of Port Harcourt, where do you think it is best to live. For more points, you can explain why it is best city for you ?

I would recommend the New Government Residential Area (GRA). The Geographical Location: New GRA is the best area to live in Port Harcourt considering is its strategic location. New GRA lies between the popular Aba road and Ikwerre road, this is very helpful if you want to travel to any part of the town or travel outside the state. Residing here gives you access to several markets like, mile 1, mile 3, for your groceries and fashion wears.

  • Garrison is home of electronics and other phone gadgets and accessories. For the movie freaks, Port Harcourt mall located along Aba road houses the film house cinemas for your ultimate movie experience strategically located along the Port Hacourt Aba express way.

  • Security/safety:GRA is one of the most secure areas of the city because of the high-profile people who live there.
It is where the majority of the city's high-profile businessmen and politicians reside.

  • Traffic: this is one places that seldom experiences traffic up jam like other parts of the city, so if do not want to sit in traffic for long then New GRA is place you should consider getting yourself an accommodation.

  • Recreation: if you are someone that enjoys night life then New GRA is the best place for you. This houses some of best and prestigious club houses and hotels in Port Hacourt. The popular Genesis restaurant and cinemas is also located in the heart of New GRA. There is also the port harcourt polo club right inside of Port Harcourt.
Religion: there are several worship centers for both Christian and Muslim faithful here as well.

Since you have been living around this city whats the most awful moment you ever heard ?

One of the most horrific stories I have heard is that of the serial killer known as Gracious David-West. This is a story of serial killings that took place in several hotels in Port Harcourt. This is a story about serial
killings that occurred in Port Harcourt hotels in 2019.
There have been several cases and reports of young ladies being brutally murdered by an unknown person in various hotels with no trace of who was responsible for the heinous act. A total of nine cases were reported in Port Harcourt. The victims were found naked and tied hand, foot and mouth.

It was discovered that most of the victims were sex workers. It was reported that the victims were being raped and valuables such as their phone and cash were collected from them before finally being strangled by David-West.
Several protests and calls from city residents prompted the police to go on the hunt for the perpetrators of the heinous crime. On his way to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, the police finally apprehended him, after footage of him was caught on a CCTV camera in one of the hotels where this crime was committed. The culprit was arraigned in court where he pleaded guilty to the crime.
Mr Gracious David-West confessed to killed in other states such as Lagos, Edo, Abia and Imo states.
However, justice was served, when the high court sitting in Port Harcourt, presided over by Justice Adolphus Enebeli sentenced the accused to death by hanging after he confessed to crime with all evidence showing he was guilty.

I would like to invite my friend @glorygogo1234 to participate in this contest.

Conclusion :

Port Harcourt is a home to a every Nigerian and foreigners. The people are welcoming, hospitable and Accomodating to all. Port Harcourt is a place where most dreams come true. Port Harcourt is the only city in Nigeria where non indigenes are not discriminated against.

Cheers

pitakwa to the world
