Why is Port Harcourt city one of the most popular cities in Nigeria
It is one of the most popular cities in Nigeria because of the industrial and commercial activities that occur here and the presence of operational headquarter of top oil firms. Its serenity and cultural heritage also give it an edge.

Food
We cannot talk about PH city and miss out on the food. There are two notable delicacies of the city and they include;
Bole and Onunu.
Source
Bole is a typical food that includes yam and/or plantain with fish and finished with sumptuous palm oil sauce. It is one of the best foods eaten here even by foreigners and has even transcended to become an annual event called Bole Festival where citizens gather to eat Bole and familiarize themselves while at it.

Onunu is a nutritious and healthy delicacy made from yam ponded with boiled ripe plantain and finished off with palm oil. It can actually be served with spicy fresh fish pepper soup or stew.
Oil mining
The city is known for crude oil and natural gas. Major oil mining in the country is carried out here and it is home to so many multinational oil and gas companies. It is speculated that the cost of living is particularly high in this city because of the presence of crude oil, hence it is assumed that everyone is “rich” at some level….“We dey chop oil money” as we say it in Pidgin.
As a resident, where do you think is the best place to live
There are quite a lot of amazing places to reside here and I have lived in different parts of the city and on that stand, I can rightfully say that the best place to live is Nkpolu-Oroworukwo (Mile 3). This is based on the following reasons;
- It is a very peaceful area although there are so many touts here. One of the good things is that these touts do not necessarily disturb the residents unduly and most important, one gets to learn the “street life” from living in Mile 3.
- There is constant power supply here, without mincing words I can say that we enjoy power at least 18hrs per day.
- It is very accessible, there are good road networks that connect to different parts of the city. Mile 3 is among the township of the city and can be said to be situated in the heart of PH. You can easily get vehicles going to different parts of the city and state at large.
- It houses one of the biggest markets in the state (Mile 3 market) where things are sold cheaply and you can get almost anything you want.
Since you have been in this city, what is the most awful moment you’ve ever heard
My most awful moment in this city was in 2014 when four students of the University of Port Harcourt faced jungle justice and were burnt alive in Aluu Community. Although it has been 7years now, I still feel bad whenever I think of the incident. It was all over the news that year and what made it more gruesome was that I knew two of the deceased as they were my seniors in secondary school. This is definitely the most awful moment I’ve heard; the news has refused to erase from my memory.
Nkpolu-Oroworukwo road.
I am inviting @armstrongdiho, @meniya @beautiefair and @realamy to participate in this contest.

Nice context about portharcourt. You have written so well about this city. Hmmm, that's indeed an awful moment that cannot be erased. 4 students burnt down? what could be their offense? It's kind of shocking to imagine that those gees were burnt down, awww! Despite their offense may their soul rest in peace...
You have done well in participating in the contest. Thanks...

@bright-obias they committed no crime. Just young promising guys who just got admitted into university. They were mistaken as thieves and the people of umochiri Aluu carried out jungle justice on them. Its a situation i dont like remembering either, i get so emotional when i remember it,one of them was my very good friend. Young guy of 22 with a promising career. He wanted to go into music and released a song before his death titled..." No love in the heart of the city" Indeed their situation showed that there was no love in the city.
One of the guys was the only child of his parents, another was the only son,while another was the son of a radio presenter(Mr Tekena Iyalla) while the last was from another state. I still remember all 4 of them vividly.
You can watch the painful video on facebook with #aluu4
Its a good thing that justice was served after several years, as the perpetrators were sentenced to death by hanging.
May the #aluu4( lloyd, tekena, ugonna, chimdia)continue to rest.
