Today I will be sharing with you how to start fish farming from the scratch. As a trained Agriculturist I have a vast knowledge of Fish Farming, so in my blog, I will taking on a series on Fish Farming.
Fish farming is the raising of fish for profit or personal use, fish is rich in nutrients like omega3 fatty acids that improve our health and lt lowers blood cholesterol levels.
We will be considering the following processes in order to have a good fish pond.
  • Land for pond
  • Soil quality
  • Soil testing
  • Water supply
  • Good fish food
  • Construction of the builds pond
  • Fingerlings or baby fish
For the purpose of this post today, I will be dwelling on Land for Pond and Soil Quality.

Land for Pond

This is a process where you will need a piece of land where you will build a pond in the suitable water area, to build pens or cages. Alternatively, pens and cages can also be used for raising fish farming from the time they are babies until they are big enough to be eaten or sold. If you have a stream, river, lake, or reservoir nearby, you may want to build a pen or cage raise fish there. It is good to set your pond in a place with a little slope or on a hillside so you will not have to dig too much soil to build it. a pond builds on the slopes is easier to drain, do not build your pond in a place that is so slow it can be flooded during the rainy season.

Soil Quality

The soil where you will build your pond should not be sandy soil or graves it will not hold water. If it is sandy the water will sink into the ground and there will be no enough water for your fish, rather it should enough clay soil. Clay soils are known to hold water than any kind of soil. In clay soil, a little water will sink into the ground and the bank of the clay will be strong enough to hold water in the pond.

Thank you so much for going over my work, hope you learnt something. I will like to get your review in the comment section.
