Introduction

Plants, to be more specific green plants manufacture oxygen during the photosynthesis process where they make their food. We humans utilize this oxygen for breathing and other bodily processes. Most plants also have medicinal value and are used in the treatment of some sickness.


Examples of plants and it’s medicinal values

Aloe Vera - This plant can be grown in a farm or garden, also if you don’t have in your garden you can always buy from the market. It has lots of uses which are -

●it has the ability to reduce blood sugar,
● it can stop constipation,
●can treat damaged skin
●increase the healing rate of burn injuries

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) - The ginger plant has medicinal properties and also gives taste to food. You can either blend and drink, peel and chew, you can also grind and add to your cooking. It’s uses include -

● it cures stomach upset,
● it reduces cold,
● it reduces the risk of cancer
● it can boost metabolism

Jatropha tanjorenis (Iyana Ipaja) - This leaf is popularly known as hospital too far or tomorrow to far. It can be used to prepare vegetable sauce to be eaten with yam or rice. It has numerous uses but got it’s popular name tomorrow to far because of its anti-malaria and anti-microbial properties. It’s users are as follows ;

● it fights infections and also boost the immune system
● it helps improve the circulation of blood
● it aids in weight loss

Scent leaf (Ocimum gratissimum) - This is a widely known plant, commonly grown in our back gardens and also sometimes used in preparing meals because of its taste. It’s medicinal uses are as follows;

● Scent leaf treats bloated stomach and also aids proper digestion
● It can be used to treat some skin diseases by simply squeezing and rubbing on the affected area.
● The stick of scent leaf can be used as chewing stick for cleansing the mouth.
● Can also be used to treat cold, catarrh etc.

Conclusion

Many plants are used to relieve sickness and diseases, also plants provide the oxygen needed by humans and animals, whereas humans provide the carbon dioxide needed by green plants. This shows the relationship between plants and humans. Everything has a role it plays in the universe.

Please @estyroberts, how can one use it as an antidote to scorpion bite/sting?. I never know it can fight against infections. Please which type? STI's or PID's?

I know and have used some of these plants as herbs and as ingredients right from wen I was a kid.

Thank you for educating on some medicinal plants around us.Nature is endowed with lots of plants of medical benefits.I use scent leaf for preparing porridge plantain and ginger for making stew.The other ones:I barely use them 😃.

It fights against vagina infections by increasing acidity inhibiting the multiplication of the infectious organisms. For the antidote -the extraction from the leaves, it should not be eaten raw as it may cause harm but cooked for at least 3 minutes.
