Morning Activities
It’s monday morning, the environment was calm and serene, as though no activity would be done. The regular Monday stay at home order is being religiously obeyed by everyone. The stay home had been on for about a month or so in the south eastern part of Nigeria alone.
I woke up to an Acerbic taste in my mouth, a nervous clutch in my belly . I don’t want to get out of the bed, I felt tired , like someone that did a heavy work a day before , but I did get out of bed anyway and went on with my daily routine.
I packed up the small, flat, almost like a carpet bed I lay on, prepared Food for Dad from the soup i made yesterday and went further to persuade mum to help me wash my hair. Its actually my hair wash day, and I planned masking my hair before washing it.
I’ll decided to practice one of the routines I learned a day before on YouTube on different methods to improve hair grout and ward off dandruff from my scalp. I took a seed of banana from the bunch I bought, peeled it and and added a bit of water, after extracting the juice I added an egg, then 2 table spoon of olive oil. Divided my hair in sections, thoroughly applied the mixture to each section and massaged it evenly until the mixture touches the scalp then i made a braid out of it .
I repeated this till am sure the mixture has evenly touched the whole hair and scalp. I covered it for about an hour, then I washed it out using a mild shampoo and applied a leave in conditioner.
I covered my washed hair with an ankara wrapper while I tied another around my body before heading to the bathroom. I felt queasy on sighting the unplastered green walls of the bathroom , which was filled with bubbles formed from different soap ladder, some dried , some dripping from the walls ,while some wet and clung tightly to the walls. I wondered how I’ve lived her for the past 19 years of my life, maybe because the number of tenants in the compound wasn’t much then.
I went out to get some groceries’ for breakfast, and watched while on alert if any shop owner has the withe to open up today, after previous experiences of Mondays people didn’t stay home. bread cars where burnt and young boys were arrested and tortured without reason, being labeled as traitors.
I took some money from the mantel and headed out to get peak milk and coffee for breakfast. Shop owners loitered around their shops , only opening a single door or possibly a window to attend to customers while still being on alert.
Afternoon
Its 12 noon already, and I have some clothes from my clients I need to attend to. I’ve had the material for the clothe for months, giving promises upon promises of making it. Well I’ve been extremely busy , so I resorted to giving them dates to come get the clothe while those dates passed without me barely glancing at the material.
so I decided to make some of the Clothes. I prepared an area in my bedroom, dropped the sewing machine and started making those I’ve cut already.
Thankfully, work was much easier with those ones because I had earlier cut out patterns I’d need to sew.
With all hopes of enjoying my day and having enough rest my employer called, I was asked to go to work, at the nearest branch.
Since there was no means of transporting myself to the other branch I work and the roads are dried and devoid of cars, I resorted to trekking to work. Here I am sitting in wait of customers that never came. Fortunately, I came with a book , “the thing around your neck” by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie .
I read some of the chapters while I tended to the few customers that came to buy one or two things till its 8pm, time to go home.
Night
After locking up the shop, I stepped out to board a tricycle, the build up of traffic on the road discouraged me. It was as if a whistle was blown. Every one was outside, the dried roads became full of life to the point that you can barely even see the next step forward. Boarding a tricycle we be a waste of time and resources , I decided to trek home.
I got home after an hour and 15 minutes . Headed straight to the kitchen and immediately prepared dinner for the family, before bathing. I sat down and reminisced on how I spent my day, and how to achieve more next time. I chatted with a few friends online, ate before going to bed
