Cameroon has a multicultural society with several tribes and ethnic groups throughout the country. Each village has customs that are unique to them. However, in all ethnic groups throughout Cameroon, the family unit is of the utmost importance and it is reflected in the customs.

One traditional custom in my culture is that of a succession plan, where you are chosen to replace a family member, be it man or woman who is no more among the living. Culture state that in doing this, the deceased are no more dead, that he or she has come back to life in another body.

My culture state that before you die, you most have chosen whoever is to replace you as your succession. This is a position where the successor resumes some responsibility of the deceased. Deceased name, and management properties. If the deceased was an influential person, the successor automatically becomes too.

Mama Monic Tehaw, popularly know as "The girl". She was my grandmother, died at the age of 121 years. She was pilar in the family, grand, great-grand, and great great grand Mother. she had a big family. First wife in a polygamous home. So she was regarded as the father of the family after the death of her husband thirty years ago (1979).

My tribute

I've always adored how much you love your family, and to be honest, that will forever stick to me and inspire me to have that kind of love.
I miss you everyday Mama, and there's not a day that I do not think about you. I wish that I saw you one last time, I wish I got to say a proper goodbye, but I'm just glad you waited as promised and carry your grandkids, and finally, I got to tell you that I love you one last time.
I will make sure that one day to tell stories about you to my kids. And I will tell them how much you wish them well. But I know you're looking down on us and that you're finally in peace. I Will always love and miss you in my heart, Grandma. RIP

Ma Moni (sitting) Me(standing in front of her) picture was taken in 1989

Ma Moni dead on 16 July 2020 at about 12:30 am. it was not easy, but for her age, it was okay for her to sleep and get a good rest. before then she had chosen her successor some years back. Many knew and I knew about it. But by the custom and tradition, the public will only know after the funeral when a display of traditional rites are been done.
