Greetings to my fellow SteemAlive community members. Today just like always, I'll love to share how my day went. The little details, the big issues, thrilling moments, disappointments, successs, etc.

Early Morning

I woke up early in the morning highly energetic and motivated to face the day. After my breakfast, I got dreesed up for the day's big occasion that is NYSC Sensitization on Environmental Sanitation. Let me give a brief overview of the NYSC scheme for those who do not have much information about it.

Introduction

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is a scheme that was established by the federal republic of Nigeria in the year 1973 with the aim of helping young graduates 🎓 from colleges and universities to be self-reliant, to promote the growth of national economy, to promote unity amongst the citizens who come from different parts of the country with different backgrounds and beliefs; these are few objectives of the scheme among others.

The zonal inspector of the scheme in Aba South local government, Abia state, Mrs. Ruth Jacobs organised a Sensitization on the importance of Sanitation and keeping our environment clean. We all agreed to her proposal and the sensitisation took place today, being Saturday. We chose Saturday because everyone is busy on weekdays. Inspite of our busy schedule throughout the week, we still made efforts to go for the environmental sanitation exercise.

The aim of the environmental sanitation exercise is to create awareness among the community dwellers about the sustainable development goals (SDGs) -on Clean water and sanitation.

The Environmental Sanitation Exercise in Pictures

We gathered in one place where tools such as, shovels, rakes, head pans, parkers, brooms, etc., were distributed to us for the sanitation.

In action: parking a dirt or refuse that was dumped carelessly by community members. It is very important for us to learn how to properly dump our dirts or refuse. Dumping of garbage should be done at the designated areas. Disposal of garbage in or along waterways is wrong. Let's protect our environment by properly adhering to environmental laws

During the process, the state department for environmental sanitation and refuse disposal came and they were impressed by what we did
Other community members joined us when they saw how we did the work good heartedly.

A Piece of Advice to the Community Members

Residents should package their wastes and dump it subsequently in designated area where the refuse dumping truck will come and evacuate the wastes to a permanent dump site. Stop discarding wastes unnecessarily. We can make the world better by keeping it clean!

Indiscriminate dumping of refuse on land must be discouraged.Refuse must be burnt or disposed at the proper places e.g dustbins 🗑. Other means of waste management are also encouraged, such as recycling, reprocessing, and re-use. Always keep your surroundings clean. Keep Aba clean. Keep Nigeria clean. Make the world a better place to live in.

Evening: after the day's hard work

The sanitation exercise was concluded at around 3:00PM (West Africa Time). I was tired, exhausted, thirsty and famished. I moved haggardly to my lodge. I couldn't even cook. I had to just sustain my life with a bottle of Mirinda and cake. Later on, I had the strength to cook noodles 🍜 and 3 fried eggs. I took my shower and then started blogging on Steemit.

Conclusion:

I had a busy day which followed by a calm evening/night. Though the environmental sanitation exercise was both stressful and full of fun. I really enjoyed it. As an advocate of the SDGs, I'll always look for opportunities to make people, the environment and the world better.

Thanks for your kind words and for stopping by to read through my blog.
We're actually working hard to make an impact on the lives of the community dwellers by sensitising them on financial inclusion, private/personal and public hygiene, clean water and sanitation, etc.
